I did the same thing...taking my three ratchets back to be replaced. 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive. They opened a drawer at the register and handed me three that were turned in by someone else. The chrome was peeled on one and the mechanisms worked worse than mine. So to say, we had a little discussion in front of all the customers. I walked out with three new ratchets. I told the sales clerk that if I busted my knuckles one more time by the ratchet slipping, the damn things were coming back by th way of the front window. Craftsman knows damn well that the ratchets are junk because they all get returned at one time or another. Why can't they change the design? You would think after awhile that it would be cheaper to make them right instead of exchanging numerous times. In the 15 years that I have had mine they have been exchanged 4 times now. And that will be the last. Next time it will be another brand that I buy. So long Crapsman.:rocketwho

That is why I use craftsman sockets and snap on ratchets, hehehe.

Well, Kevin54 has had about the same luck with the junk raised panel teardrop ratchets that I have. I love the old RHFT. I also have an old Matco version of the teardrop design that is an excellent ratchet. However, the ones he is talking about really are bad. Whenever I have seen a tool warranty deal going down at Sears it has been about 90% that ratchet design.

I don't think they'll do away with it,but you never know. I did however get a brand new 3/8 as part of the 154pc set for christmas and the first time I went to turn it it was locked tight, didnt even have a socket on it yet, just sitting there. I wasn't very happy, I ended up using a cheapy black and decker because it is actually finer tooth then a craftsman...pretty sad.

a long while back they replaced broken taps. then they stopped.
they tried to tell me 'hand tools only'
I told that I used by hand and now with power tools. they didnt care.

I uaed to have cman tin snips. they stopped making them and one day wanted to replace them with ones that looked the same but said sears on them.
then they would refund my money but only the amount that was for the sears version

hammers. I have heard that on some of the hammers they warranty more per month that they sell. so some when you go in there they refund you for the hammer. they give you the same amouht for you to buy another brand they are selling that the warranty goen through the manufacturer. I asked about the warranty and they said contact the manufacturer.

when it comes to exchange or ratchets I have been told policy that is all over the place.
1 we dont give you a new one, we only give an exchange one.
2 we cannot give you an exchange or a new one if you have engraved your name in it
3 you can get a new one or a rebuilt one, your choice
4 grab any one on the rack you would like

depending on the person you get, depends on the service you get

there have been acouple of times that they wanted to give me a total POS in exchange for mine that looked near new. I told them no and that they should give me a new one if they dont have a rebuilt one that is as good. they said they dont have to so I told them to either give me the kit or go rebuild it while I wait if they dont want to hand me a new one

I just picked up the 106pc mechanics set today that I got through the SlickDeals link and on the box and in the paperwork it say Forever Warranty next to the Made in the U.S.A.. In the literature it says they will replace or repair any hand tool that fails.

Like before , if I had a hand tool that fails I would have no problem taking it back to get a replacement or repair done to it.
