I have a snap on pair and use them often. Much easier than fighting with normal pliers or a screwdriver to spread a battery terminal after it has been over tightened and hard to get off the post.

Also used to clean the corrosion off the terminal if you do not have a brush handy

Not useless at all. Best way to spread the terminal clamp and clean the interior at the same time. I have some old Blue Birds. Keep them in the "Battery Box".
