So while I was doing my morning routine of checking out craigslist as I ate my breakfast. I came across this add for cabinets for 200 each after a quick email and then text to the seller to confirm what they were I was on my way to pick them up for 200 each so two vidmar cabinets for $400 bucks. I like to think I got a great deal...

Allow me to be the first to say, "You ****"! I've always been told they go for ...?.. like a $100 a drawer! Good for you!

Thanks guys. Yeah the wife didn't understand why I was in such a rush to go pick these up until I showed her what similar ones were selling for online.

Bolt them together (more stable) . Listas & Vidmars are great - much better than Snap On. Good score!

Great deal on the cabinets. Got two shorter ones in garage, bolted them together and use them for the bench. Had many of like the ones you bought at work, they were going for over $1k new and it was 15 years ago. They are on par with snap-on built boxes quality, lifetime product for sure.

Excuse the ignorance but whats the fuss? I could not see myself spending $400 for those. I'm assuming their special in some fashion? Self opening? Please enlighten me.

For one they are built like a tank- each drawer holds 450 lbs at full extension. Try to find another box that will do that. Secondly at the price he paid, later if he decides to get rid of them, he will make money. Google vidmar & do some research

Think of Lista and Vidmar being an extreme commercial grade product. They are the kind of storage units that factories install and last decades.

Well done. You do ****. As a former SMIB, nice score!

Nice to see you were able to escape this place...haha

I would love to find a couple shorter ones to use as a bench as well. I have been looking for a couple cabinets for a few years and was always to late to grab them but this time I was first to call.. I expect these to last my lifetime and longer

I have a older Vidmar, card file cabinet, made in the forties, the style with two separate drawers in one x ten, stands about five feet tall, its full, each drawer weighs in about 50 plus lbs, one finger will close it.

Curious questions:
Do you use any type of search app for Craigslist?
What section were they listed in? Here it seems items end up all over the place.

I have been watching my area for cabinets and metal benches with no luck.

I personally don't. I just normally check the tool, materials and general sections.

So...
Who here has paid 100 bucks a drawer for used tool boxes like this?
Who's paid half of that?

I go to a lot of industrial auctions. They routinely sell for that or more. I did see a nice one sell for $50 a drawer late last year. The one lista I purchased was $50 off CL. Needed paint and dividers. I spent $150 on minimal dividers. My advise to anyone buying a lista at any price is make sure there are dividers included. Additionally, painting one isn't hard just very time consuming and a pain to do it right.

The next Lista I buy will need no paint and have dividers. I would be willing to pay a premium for that alone. Here's pics of a $50 Lista. No after pics yet but it is done and my main toolbox.
