Wow, $500 for a 4" vise that was "restored" in the hastiest, sloppiest manner possible with a blue rattle can? I don't know I've ever seen a 4" vise I would pay $500 for, but I can say with certainty that this sure as hell ain't it. :wtf:

To say he's dreaming at his current price is an understatement:

That incorrect rattle can blue color is extremely annoying. I mean, he shows it right next to an "unrestored" vise which obviously started out as a different shade of blue. Can't un-see that.

And $500? Uh, no. I think what you have there is a vise hoarder, not someone who actually wants to sell a vise.

It's worth something -- it's just ****** paint, so it's easy to remove -- but not anywhere in the ballpark of $500. It would also depend on what other shortcuts are in evidence.

Neither shade of blue is correct, and neither vise would have had the spindle collar painted from the factory. Spray bombing parts that were originally plated is my pet peeve.

:+1: Could not agree more.

Yup. People who do that should be flogged. :twak:

Can only shake my head at this one:

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/tls/6954703210.html

Guy asking probably triple or more what the stuff is worth, completely unorganized mess, advertises that he'll keep if he can't get full price and refuses to part out anything. I offered him $300 for the empty B-W cabinet and he seriously wouldn't budge, not even a counter offer.

I see this all the time, folks listing stuff to make sure it doesn't sell, because they never wanted to part with it in the first place. Saddest part is this guy has it all in a storage facility and he's paying for every month that it doesn't sell. :tard:

Down to a grand now. Maybe he is getting an education?

And another one from the local CL. :headscrat

Antique Frank Thomas Cast Iron Base Lathe $800.

For posterity:

Huge old lathe for sale. The parts can be removed for easier transport. Shows rust, but the parts can be knocked loose pretty easy I imagine. The base itself is worth the money. Made around the turn of the century.

I can see both sides of the coin. I’m always seeing items priced way too high.
But then if givin the chance id try. And make some extra $
I bought these 3 old pennant lights at a garage sale for $5. Each.
I paired them together and sold for $300.

This one comes more under the category of Craigslist con artist than dreamer, but something for everyone to be aware of when they're out buying tools.

Not even close to a Snap-on cart. Looks like a HF one.

...

I hope you called the guy out on it. ??

I don’t think it’s a Snap-on cart either, but it’s closer to that than a Harbor Freight cart. The handle is a give away it’s not a HF, as it’s chrome. I find it interesting he actually lists the model too KRSC33A. That particular Snap-on cart is indeed the bolt together version, as least as far as internet photos go. The emblem looks to be stuck on too high in relation to the top however and the handle is wrong too. I’ll let some Snap-on experts chime in here. Easy enough to ask for the sticker code on the back.

$650 .........I would say $150 for the box and another $500 for the IH emblems. Seems I have seen this box, Waterloo?, with many companies names on it that typically seem to ask/sell for $150 or so. That IH name sure cost some bucks.

If that’s a legit international tool box, 650 is a steal.

I’ve seen screwdriver sets sell for over 1k.

Socket sets (like 12 pc ones) can sell for hundreds.

Old farmers collect this stuff and have time and money in the winter to do it.

Definitely not a blue point cart either.

It's this HF cart:

I don’t know what it is but the red harbor freight cart an the black cart that is for sale are not the same.

Just on first glance drawer configuration and lid props are completely different.

I only cited it as an example. The red cart looks like it’s been spray painted over the trim.

The red cart posted is a 5-drawer. The black cart purporting to be a Snap-on is a 4-drawer. They are nowhere near the same cart.

Additionally, the cart purporting to be a Snap-on doesn't appear to be the HF 4-drawer cart, either. I've got a couple of the earlier ones, and, like the current "Series 2", the top two narrow drawers are far shallower than the pictured cart. They also don't have tubular locks like the cart pictured.

Whatever that cart is, it's not an HF cart.

I do agree it's the TV shows that have been fueling this fad.

Partially.

Vintage farmhouse is the new decorating style. Everyone wants their house to look like an 1800s farmhouse. Stuff that used to get tossed in a dumpster is now being sold for $100+.

My wife is into this. She buys old windows and doors and hangs them on the walls. We have old watering cans and galvanized buckets everywhere. She pays a lot of money for these things too. They have to look as beat up as possible. Rust and rot make the price go up. :D

$15K for a squatting (but it's ok as it had stuff in the bed. . . . BS), 6 cylinder truck leaking oil and ready for a restoration. It's a neat truck, but worth closer to 1/10 the asking price, def a dreamer!

Huh, not buying a truck like that anywhere for $1500. While his price may be a tad high, it's not out of line. These trucks are pretty popular, If I had it I wouldn't sell it for less than $10,000, might start at $15K too.

Sometimes the CL dreamers are only dreaming insofar as finding anyone that will put up with their idiocy. Guy has a lathe up for sale locally. On its face it looks like a decent deal, and I wanted to come check it out.

Five hours after posting the ad, I text him to find out that no, he can't show the lathe. Why? He's selling it for someone else's widow and he's not there right now. Where is he? Off road in the middle of nowhere, of course.

I joke with my wife that he'll probably wreck out there and we'll never hear back from him as a result. No lie, not 10 minutes later, he texts back this gem:

attachment.php

You can't make this **** up. :wtf:

Fast forward to today, when he had expressly said he was not available except for early morning. Asked about when he would be available some afternoon, got this back:

attachment.php

Being that 'now' doesn't work because 1) I made plans since he previously said that today he was only available in the morning and 2) he's 40 minutes away in each direction, I try to find another day, any day, during the week when he has afternoon availability.

Here's another gem from later in the conversation, after I got tired of pulling teeth. I attempted to call him and sort it out that way instead of text, but per usual, it just rings until it hits voicemail:

attachment.php

I can't decide if he's being obtuse because he's allergic to money or because he wants to give buyers the run around until he can purchase it on the cheap for himself. Either way, I have a rule about begging people to take my money, so he can keep the lathe.

I swear, Craigslist is the only place where you can find people who make it this hard to give them money. I feel bad for the widow, if nothing else, because she'll be waiting a long time to sell that lathe with this idiot listing it for her.
