I've been trying to find a drill press on craigslist for a wile without luck...

Finally picked one up yesterday. Not 100% what I was looking for, but the price was right and it seemed like a significant upgrade over the Ryobi 10" tabletop press it will be replacing.

Delta 17-900

  • 3/4 HP
  • 16.5" floor model
  • NOT made in USA (Taiwan)
  • $175

It looks like the current version is the 17-950L, which has a laser and the table tilts forward, but the power went down from 3/4 to 1/2 hp.

Still on the lookout for a slightly older made in the USA drill press, and I'm sure since I finally got tired of waiting and picked this one up, I'll find one right away! :)

I picked this up from the same seller...

Craftsman 12" Band Saw

  • Home-made base
  • 1/2 HP motor
  • Made in the USA
  • $75

I don't love the home-made base, and it seems like a pretty light duty saw, but I figured for the price I'd try it and see how well it worked. I think I'll set it up and dedicate it for cutting aluminum.

looks like you got a sufficient device - at least for me.

youve got a potential buyer, in me, if you find a better one.

On first power-on, the Delta wasn't as smooth as I would have liked...

Cleaned up and aligned the pulleys, two fresh cogged v-belts, now it's Smooooooooth! :)

Pretty happy with the purchase so far.

I have the same drill press. I understand what you mean about wanting a Made in USA model but mine is the go to machine when drilling holes. The mill is just to cumbersome.

Love it!

I had a perfectly adequate Taiwan benchtop drill press for 20 years before I finally got a floor standing one. There's just something satisfying about a floor model... It's "real" machinery. Not to mention, having 2 (or more) drill presses can be a big time saver since you can set them up for multiple operations for a project.
