I've been watching for a good deal to come along, and I finally scored an air compressor to fit my needs.

A 1992 model 5Z397b. It is an 80gal tank with a Lesson 5hp motor turning a Made in USA CH two stage pump. It puts out 17.1 cfm @ 175psi, but I can't find any specs on it at 40psi and 90 psi.. It was the main compressor in a body/paint/engine shop for a number of years, but it was recently moved to backup status.

The guy was asking $400, and I picked it up for $350. I changed the oil, air filter, and gave it a good check to see if anything needed replaced. It shuts off at 120psi and back on at 80psi so I'm thinking either the pressure switch is bad or it was replaced with the wrong part at some point.

It's dirty from sitting in it's own shed and was definitely used as a tool, but it's seems to have been maintained very well since the business depended on it to make money. It runs great and I scored it for way cheaper than I expected.

Soon I'll start cleaning it up and sanding it down to prepare it for a fresh coat of green paint. I called Grainger and CH, and neither will sell me a new Speedaire decal so I'll have to tape around it rather than removing.

So how did I do??

Kerry
