I am going to look at a Lincoln Drill Press I found on Craigslist for $50. Seems like its a pretty good deal but looking for input on the brand / model as I am not too familiar. Price includes a rolling cart which I don't really need and a vise for the press.

For $50 I think its worth it. Not sure of your budget but I see good usa made benchtop drill presses in my area come up from anywhere from $50-$75. Usually doesn't include a table though.

With the table and vise included it seems like a pretty good deal. Surely the vise alone is worth around $20 or more.

Interesting to note that although the part number is absolutely identical, "RL88-DP333J", that the craigslist one clearly says "5 speed" whereas the procut one is only 3 speed. So they must be at least somewhat different.

was gonna say looks like typical chinese til i saw the taiwan label...?

Even being Taiwanese, that's still a small press with an open frame motor and only a 3-inch stroke. Price seems fair at best.

That being said, some sellers have no idea what an imported drill press is worth and ask insane prices. This one came up on CL last night and I almost spilled my beer laughing:

It's actually only a 2 inch stroke. Not sure of the size, but probably only about 8 to 10 inch swing as well.

Yeah $600 is pretty optimistic for that one. Probably wasn't more than about $200 new.

For $50 they are getting top dollar.
Well kind of. It's probably worth somewhere around $100 (give or take) new, but the DP vise they're throwing in looks like it's probably ok. Well definitely a step up from the $17 harbor freight model.

A bit hard to tell from the not so great pictures, but the DP vise does look very much like it's this one: http://www.misgroupinc.com/index.cfm?area=shop&action=detail&iid=137913 which retails for around $50. So the DP is actually free. ;)

Marcm, did you end up taking a look at this DP or did you pass on it?

The cart it is on is likely worth more than the drill press.
I have a similar DP and its very underpowered and the chuck fell off a few times. It's now retired.

Talk the CL Seller down due to all the limitations of the drill press . . short stroke, etc.

Then, for say $40 you'll have stand and vise . . . . DP really IS free so you can decide whether to keep later or not. ;)
