Craigslist Finds...

I see lots of posts about yard sale and estate sale finds, but I'm a firefighter and I work Saturdays, so no way for me to yard sale, and nothing is left on Sundays around here. So I do digital yard sales aka Craigslist. I came up on these two metal cabinets yesterday for $50 bucks for the both of them, not the greatest deal, but they are solid and exactly what I was looking for, the wide one will be to store some small tools and gadgets (kreg jig, corner clamps, small clamps, router bits etc.) and the tall one for paints, solvents, flammables of that sort. I'm going to paint em up and hang em this week before I go back on duty hopefully.

Anyone else have any good Craigslist finds lately?

I recently found this Walker 1.5 ton bumper jack on Craigslist. I just couldn't pass it up for $100 and it fits my needs perfectly for working on the wheelchair lift equipped E-Series vans in my shop.

I just thought about it looking at this photo, the commercial vacuum shown in this photo was also a $100 find on Craigslist.

The only thing around here is usually decent deals on riding mowers and overpriced used tools from HF. One old vice - $200. And big azz oil field stuff - drill press $4500.

There is guy selling some cabinets here for $40 a piece. Here is a pic. What are they worth?

Here's the horizontal one, all painted up and hung, went with my favorite football teams color scheme, hoping someday to do the whole garage this color combo.

I don't mean to be a smart---, but like most things, they are worth only what someone is willing to pay.

Does it have shelves inside? How many? Are they adjustable? How heavy is the steel guage? etc., etc. If I want this cabinet because I need a cabinet like this for a specific task, then I'll sure pay more than you if you are just buying it because you "might" find a use for it eventually.

Here's a dumb question. What is this? My old neighbor has one in her garage--left over from a PO--and when she asked what it was I didn't know. :dunno: I had to tell her I only pretend to know everything.

its a pipe vice for holding pipe, tubing or other round stock. hinged on one side to open and lay the work into it.

I got this nice little stock trailer last year for $1200 off of CL and when we went to look at it it the top was painted the same color as our truck and it was in really great shape. We were getting discouraged because we had looked at several and they were mostly rusted out and on their last legs so we upped our budget from $1500 to $2000 right before this gem came along.

I dont know about anyone else but I will see things on CL all the time that I plan to buy in the future but when I then decide to buy...they suddenly become scarcer than hens teeth.

For the longest time I was looking for some kind of lift to be able to put my snowmobiles up high in the summer and my lawnmower and motorcycles up in the winter. I had ramps drawn up, fork lift ideas, winch and pulley systems, some suggestions from this site for building lifts and shelves.... I considered everything. Then, just when I was about to start building something, I came across this lift below. Paid $600 and the guy delivered it for me. I couldn't build anything for that much, so I am very pleased. I have a BUNCH of other stuff that I have bought from craigs, but this one has been my favorite so far.

LOL. Yes they are spendy.... for what they are worth new (when you can find them), you can just about buy a full sized 4 post car lift. I know because I considered it, but after pretty much needing to buy the full floor for the auto lift... and the size of an auto lift, I was really lucky to come across this on craigs.

Nice did you get a decent price? I've never really used craigslist for this kinda thing.

I picked up a Rigid MS1290LZ 12" sliding mitre saw for $180.00 today. Pristine condition. Purchased from an older man that could no longer physically work in his little shop.

Not a screaming deal but I live in a small market and it is not often you find something you need at a decent price. I am excited!

I found one of those lifts... It is home made but looks well made. He wants $700 for it and I am going to try for less.

I found two of these Lyons on CL for $100 each and couldn't pass them up. These are 24" wide. I will use these for the workbench. Along with these two was a Lyon 3' W x 2' D x 6' H storage cabinet I got for $20 on the spot.

NICE! For all of them? NICE!

Nice buy on those cabinets. Visually, it looks like those red small parts organizers would fit EXACTLY in the space where the shorter cabinet abuts the taller ones. Just a suggestion.

Man,that deal rocks for Lyons. I've been watching CL for awhile now and Lista's and Lyons bring big money and are gone fast in L.A.

Definitely go less if you can... and post pics. Interested to see a custom one. You can also get on youtube and do some searching on snowmobile or ATV or motorcycle lifts and stuff like that. There are some cool ones out there, but some are no longer in business and others look too complicated for my application. Good luck with your purchase.

Dan,

I'm gonna use these as two base cabinets a la JO. I'm only painting the case Carson Blue, though. I may keep the drawers' colors as-is for a two-tone look.

Please elaborate. I'm not sure what you meant by "taller ones".

I think he was talking about TRC51's right there, if you look at the pic you can see that the red parts organizers would fit nicely on the four high cabinet.

Richmond...duh
Picked up a Milwaukee Portaband 6230 (older one from US) variable speed 4.75 inch deep cut band saw last week. Metal case, runs great. $140.

Seller says "Oh by the way...... I have some old micrometers" Yeah...just some old starret 1" and 2" micrometer. Older but perfect....Ratchet, lock, carbide faces, cases and a 1" standard....Those are like 180 and 240 for each....of course they are manual, not digital.

$30.00...actually 20 bucks and an unused HF $10 gift card.

I love craigslist....

SO far I have gotten:

Southbend 9A $500
Like new Handy Motorcycle lift/clamp/extension $700
Gerstner 11 drawer chest and base FILLED with over $2500 of tools $350

I have sold boats and hired employees off CL.
