I've spent the last couple of weeks remodeling the laundry room, which is right off of the garage. I had an old plastic utility sink in there that I used both to clean up car parts and me. As part of the remodel we put a new sink/cabinet in there and I had no where to put the old sink, so I offered it up for free on Craigslist this afternoon.

Yikes!

I put in the ad to call me and I'd put it out on the curb for pickup, within 5 minutes of posting the ad I'll bet I had 10 phone calls!

Never underestimate the power of Craigslist - or the word "Free"!

I love CL FRee section. Not only have I gotten everything from cabinets to a garage fridge, but yesterday I had a yard sale to get rid of a bunch of stuff pre-move, and after I put a listing on CL for free stuff and posted this photo:

We left at 2:00 to get a bite, and when we came back there was literally nothing left! Awesome! I didn't have to haul anything to the Goodwill or trash.

Jim

PS Your sink looks exactly like mine. I had to go look out back to see if it was still there!

As I just posted on another post about free stuff on c.l.
There is always some one looking for somthing for free and free is the best price
And the best thing is you don't have people trying to dicker with you over the price..

I would have paid you to ship that jeep book!

No offense, but the hassle of shipping one book wouldn't have been worth my time. That is why I gave it all away rather than continue to try to sell a hundred books for $0.25 each like on Amazon.

Now, for a friend, or fellow forum member I might have, but how would I ever know unless I listed all the books I have/had?

Jim

Edit, on Amazon for $7 http://www.amazon.com/dp/0785355626/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Same book, has a paper outer cover over the hard cover.

The secret to the "Free" craigs ads is to NOT include your phone number. Something like ""Eight One Hundred Dollar Bills FREE please email with NAME-PHONE NUMBER-and dollar bills in subject line. Will respond in order of receipt" This way you can can get a bunch of emails, read through them to screen the respondents and call back the ones that don't seem to be serial killers

When it comes to books, I'd take them over to the closest used bookstore, they will pay something for them, and even a dollar a book would make it worthwhile, I'll bet that's what your CL "buyers" did with them....

I''m usually a freebie "giver" rather than a "getter" on CL.....

The guy who "won" my sink is driving over 40 miles one-way to pick it up - that's just nuts to me, but most of the calls I got on it were from outlying areas.

In the old days, pre-Kindle, they used to give reasonable money for books. But now, unless they are current hardbacks, you are lucky to get a quarter for them. Check Amazon. I had a lady go through nearly all the newish books with a bar code reader looking for books worth more than a penny on Amazon. She found three.

Wow, good point! I haven't been to the used bookstore myself in a while.

My wife downloads all kinds of free books to her Nook, and she can check them out from the library too....

If you have a "half-priced" book store near you, it may have been worth a trip there to get rid of them. Maybe make a few bucks or get a store credit.
