You've got to figure that most people throw out a lowball offer at half of asking price, so doing this enables him to sell it for a fair price to the first lowballer that comes by...

If he priced it at $10 and wanted $7, he would have to deal with all the people that offer $4 or $5, which wastes time...

Just my $0.02

I always never understood selling these 5-10-15 dollar items on craigslist. Selling them at a garage sale where you're also selling many other items all at once is one thing, but to go through the time and effort to post an ad with a picture on craigslist, then to reply to e-mails and telephone calls to sell a cheap oil filter wrench which are a dime a dozen anyway, is a little silly and not a very good way to spend your time.

I really need to buy this cheap **** on Craig's List???!!! Why can't I just go to the nearest auto parts store and buy it? Some people are just nuts and think others will buy there **** no matter what. I'm surprised that he didn't say "I paid X amount for this, but I'm letting it go for less" or my personal favorite "Serious inquiries only".

LOL I have that same wrench except with a red handle. I paid 25 cents at a yard sale. It was new in the package with a 5.99 price tag still on it.

you would be nuts to pay 15 dollars for that!

That line of thinking is why I have too much junk.

Recently I broke it down like this:

It doesn't take long to take a picture and write a paragraph. It doesn't take that long to put it in a box, and afix a label. And it doesn't take that long to drop it at the post-office. If you can get $15 a pop for a bunch of junk you have laying around, and you can spent 20 min total on the transaction, you're essentially making $45/hr gross. If it's sell it or take it to the dump (or sit on it another 10 years before it goes to the dump), it's basically pure untaxed profit.

Then again I should figure it takes twice as long because I'd have to clean the garage up enough to find the stuff...
