Craigslist Score? How'd I do?

Cruising Craigslist last night and came across an ad for a Ryobi 18v set. I've never owned anything Ryobi, but they don't seem to bad for the DIY'er.

Here's what I got:
Drill
Jig Saw
Circular Saw
Palm Sander
Light
Vacuum
Reciprocating Saw
10" Chain Saw
(4) Batteries
Charger
Carrying Bag

All for $50. How did I do?

You did quite well. I believe they charge about $20 apiece for the batteries at the retailers.

Looks good. Hopefully the batteries you got hold a charge. The set doesn't look too old so I'm sure they're ok. Seems like those sets around my neck of the woods would sell for well over 100 bucks. Guys are trying to get 50 for broken stuff or so old with bad batteries for 50. Good deal.

I've got a Ryobi compound miter saw that I've had for years that works great for the home projects. Not sure about their quality on their newer stuff but I'd guess you'll be happy.

I don't like them much either, but other times I love them. My reasoning is because it isn't a tool made to last. I see corded tools that are from the fifties all the time, but cordless tools are rendered useless when their battery packs/chargers go bad and the pack design changes that occur all the time. I guess you could crack the packs open and replace the wore out cells with fresh ones. On the flip side, they sure can be handy and in certain situations become indispensable. For instance, I need to cut a quarter panel off at the junk yard. They don't allow a generator with corded tools. What else are you going to do. Not much of a better option than a cordless grinder and sawsall. They have their place, shortcomings and advantages. Yes, I think the OP did good for $50.

I have most of the tools that you mentioned, all but the sander and the chain saw, plus a couple that you did not. The little impact driver is the one Ryobi tool that I use more than any other and I think it is just as good as my Dewalt of the same size and voltage. I have the same opinion of the 18 volt skill saws, the Ryobi actually seems to run smoother and quieter than the Dewalt that I have and cuts just as well. None of the other Ryobi tools that I have even compare to the Dewalt counterparts, but they have all served me just fine.

I purchased the Ryobi tools as "disposables" when I was doing lots of work on the site of a medieval/renaissance fair during the off season with very limited access to power and no really secure place to store my tools. They proved to get the job done. That was a good 12 or 15 years ago, these days I keep the Ryobi tools in the woodworking shop and the Dewalt tools in the garage (saves me lots of steps between the two shops).

I havnt used ryobi stuff since it came out....it was junk back then...unless thay have come along way with there new stuff? I know i never see anyone on comercial job sites using it..maybe good for low use home small stuff

Heck for $50 price, you can't go wrong. Cordless sawzall comes in handy, and you'll always use the cordless drill and flashlight.

I'd say you scored on the deal as they're worth $200 new . . . .

P.S. If you've got old cordless tools with bad battery, just go to AllPak or Interstate Battery stores and then can just make you a new battery.
