While buying a horizontal metal bandsaw by Foremost for $70, I spotted an air compressor and asked about it. It's a dental/medical grade air compressor using a pair of separate rotary direct coupled compressors through a dryer unit which auto purges before going to a 15 gallon tank.

It's not much on horse power or GPM so I'm not certain it's something I'll be using in the garage, but the price was good.

6.4 GPM @ 80 psi
5.6 GPM @ 100 psi

COMPRESSO-DRI
Air Techniques
Mdoel L-64

From my searches on Ebay, these things run $1200-2500. I got it for $200.

Now I hope to clean it up, shoot some video of it running showing the pressure build up, and how quiet it is. I mean it's *quiet*. As in about as loud as a refridgerator. You can talk comfortably without raising your voice while next to it.

Maybe I can sell it enough for a 60-80 gallon vertical air compressor of 6-8 hp range.

If not rotary, would you call them? It's an electric motor line with a vaned assembly in the case that produces 100 psi quietly and effectively.

The OEM rates the compressors in GPM. The figures are pulled from their manual.

So, should I toss it in the dump or sell it for the scrap metal weight? :)

Your best available dollars for that machine, may be to contact a dealer who specializes in medical/dental equipment.

Or, contact the manufacturer, as they may be interested in purchasing it as they will re-manufacture and re-sell as rebuilt.

Machines like that are not produced in large volumes. It has significant value, but really only to a very specific niche. Good luck.

That compressor would be awesome for a small paint gun or air brush setup since it sends dry air, it may be worth keeping IMHO.

Yes, it could handle an airbrush...

The only reason it is capable of delivering dry air is the coalescing filter/dessicator that it has on it, which could be added to any compressor... And by the looks of that one, it has not been serviced in a long time....

Given its large size, and very low output, it is really not a good choice for doing much more than running a brad gun or running very low CFM tools....like a dental drill.

If the goal is to run very low CFM tools and do it very quietly, well then, this is certainly the ideal machine.

GPM is gallons per minute, typically used for measuring a liquid.

CFM is cubic feet per minute, typically used for measuring air volume.

Cool compressor. I would sell it myself. Cool none the less.

I exepct to sell it, and didn't think it would run what I wanted. Odd that the manual specified GPM, when CFM makes more sense, but whatever.

The tank was built in the late 90's. It's not that old. Outside of being dirty, it's in good condition. One pump motor assembly was replaced (the black one).

It could handle a LOT of air brushes. Or an entire pet shop's need for running the fish tanks.

At $200, it was a good deal. I'm sure I can get more than that for it. The hard part is finding the right person. And to do that, I also need to document it fully. I don't really want to deal with shipping a 350 pound compressor for some Ebay auction if I can help it, but if that means selling it at $1500 or so, then that may be worth it.
