I picked up 40+- 2x8 sheets of 3/4 pink foam insulation for free. Someone redid their vinyl siding and went with new insulation as well. Some sheets are broken, and they all have a few holes where the nails were, but it is clean and in good shape otherwise.
I have an un-insulated post and beam shop that my Dad built in the 50's, and I want to use this in it. It is nowhere near enough for the ceiling, and I would rather use six inch fiberglass there anyway. The walls are sheathed outside with one layer of T&G spruce, weathered and shrunk, with many of the knots fallen out. At night the building looks like a perforated tin can lantern.
I would like to fit the foam between the girts and up against the sheathing on the inside of the walls, hopefully reducing the amount of air coming through the wall. It makes me a little nervous that I will not be able to cover it any time soon, unless I just use junk tin roofing panels, which I already have. How great is the actual fire danger if it is not covered? The bottoms of the walls are concrete, three feet up from the floor, and the insulation would start above that level. I do do some cutting and welding, but that is usually in an open doorway, unless it is -10 degrees and the wind blowing.
The other option is to hold on to it until I get around to pouring a floor in the second bay, and use it under the concrete in that side. Is the pink foam suitable for that?
