$80 on Sunday needs some tlc and a upper lock assembly. I was hoping someone could take some pictures of their KR537A lock assembly.

Both the 537 and the KR557 are dated 1979.

Slides need to be cleaned and lubed and they will probably get a coat of my shop colors sail blue and nickel satin.

Enjoy

Nice  What do the insides look like? They still sell the lock bar and lock for the 537.

Inside look ok kind of similar to the outside so it will get at complete repaint maybe a sandblast.
I did not see a lock bar available on the SO site just the cams. Are they interchangeable between the A B C....... Models?

Nice score. I have those same boxes, I bought mine around 1982. Well worth restoring if you like all those shallow drawers, as I do.

Before you get too far into it, I'd check over the slide channels on the box, especially the bottom for thinning.

Hope this helps, if not I can take better picture

Thanks for the pic.

I ordered the cam and some other stuff direct from Snap On and will plan on fabing the rods.

Now to order a matching lock and keys.

I started scraping the drawers out and they will clean up nice.

The other thing I did was remove the embossed steel backed vinyl on the small drawer cover.

We will see where this goes

Nice! I like the shallow drawer layout. I'm not familiar with this SO box so what's the black panel on the upper right? Drawer? Door? Can you take a pic of this panel in its open (whatever that may be) position?

When I first started wrenching, I thought that setup would be the best, and always wanted one. So far I haven't found one, but I keep watching. Don't need it, but I still want one someday!

both for $80 ?

yea you ****. :spit:

the kr537 and it's (younger) cousin the kr637 are actually my least favorite top boxes.

the kr537 was a very popular top box "back in the day".

btw

i have both in the garage.

The lower is currently sitting with no drawers and the main body has been completely degreased. Slides are all sitting in a evaporust bath.
I seemed to have lost my sandblasters number so this may get a scuff convert, prime sand then paint.

I am struggling with painting it shop colors or red as new.

I have a bunch of Lista and Vidmar cabinets that are slowly getting painted to match this sample.

Any recommendations?

Also it appears I destroyed the trim when I removed it but prefer the look without.

Assuming this becomes a resto thread should I start a new one?

Thank you

Nice score. I have one of those boxes I bought used from a Snap On dealer in 1982. Traded a set of Craftsman boxes and cash for them. Got the top and bottom.

My wife later bought me a middle box. I bought a side box used from another Snap On dealer.

A friend painted it for me several years ago. They are great boxes. I have out grown it, but will never get rid of it.

That is a pretty good grab. I'm always on the fence between a vintage, used "rat" look, and clean it up and resto mindset. Top and bottom box for $80 is a solid.

I'd paint it. The inside looks pretty rough and they aren't exactly a rare box to begin with.

Found my blasters number and he is thinking 170$ to blast it so I will finish the tear down and paint it next week.

It's going to look marvelous!

Pics to follow
