What catches your eyes.


Unfortunately, someone got to the block plane before me. But, I did pick up these four ($5 each).


I've been looking for a saw set for ages!!! Looks like it still works perfect.
Can't find any markings.

The wrench movement is smooth as silk. It says "Solid Bar USA". The top jaw has a logo with an arrow and some more markings I can't make out.

The chisel has some faded markings. "BushBrothers" or "BussBrothers" is all I can make out.

Haven't found any markings on the screw driver.

Looks like you did OK. Don't worry about the block plane, they're cheap and plentiful.

In the future I suggest looking for chisels that haven’t had the snot beat out of them, once you trim off the abused section you’ll find it difficult to get a handle to stay in what’s left.

I like the screwdriver and monkey wrench. Sawsets are getting harder to find, that one looks like it’s for very large saws, do you plan to do your own saw sharpening, an interesting skill for sure.

You should post up a wtb if you’re looking for older woodworking tools.

Monkey wrench looks like a coes patent. Chisel is likely buck brothers.

That chisel is a monster compared to my generic Stanley chisels.
But, it's just a baby compared to the timber framing chisels I see on line.
The handle end is hollow. Looks like it should have a handle like this.


I've ground flat and re-cut the teeth on a few hand saws.
I worked with an old timer for about seven years that showed me a few things.
I haven't tried to do the proper crosscut tooth pattern he showed me, though.
I've been cutting the teeth straight across like a rip saw, then file at an angle so the teeth point left, right, left, right, etc. Hard to explain. Kind of looks like the pattern on an ATB circular saw blade.
A little too aggressive, I think. Cuts damn fast, though.

Buck Brothers chisels are still available today.

Yours probably looked like this 100 years ago.
