I couldn't wait to make a thread after work with pics, but I will get some hopefully this evening.

I was checking CL on my blackberry (CL is blocked at work...) and saw and ad for a Snap On box for $1800.

http://denver.craigslist.org/tls/1658798787.html

The box is a Red KRL1001B, i think the B is for Big!

The box was only 2 miles from my work, and my bank is only one block away. I called the guy, hit the bank, grabbed $1500 in 100's, $300 in 20's so I had some negotiating room.

I walked in and saw the box, I would say overall condition for a used box is 'excellent'. I pitched the number $1200 out there, to which his reply was 'i'm sorry I can't, my daughter just died yesterday...'. So that stopped me in my tracks. I still think I got a decent deal and ended up paying the full $1800. Worst case i figured I could sell it!

I can't grab the pics of CL so if someone else wants to please go ahead! :bounce:

Pics from the CL ad.

Also, I found one small dent, it has all the drawer liners and the keys look brand new. A few scuff marks that should come off with a little elbow grease :D

Nice box. I tend to like that drawer configuration better then the 1022.

I think he was saying he needed money for his daughters medical expenses or funeral. That would be my guess.
OR - not making any judgments about the truth of this since I wasn't there - but it could just as easily been a complete sob-story fabrication. I've seen people lie like dogs when trying to sell things sometimes.

Yeah, it was his grandson's at one point, he helped his grandson out by buying it. Unfortunately his daughter died yesterday. Pretty sad story, made me feel better about being in a position to buy it an help out!

Assuming he was telling you the truth about his daughter, I don't think he should have mentioned that to you. All he had to say was he couldn't take less and he had his reasons. Not fair of him to lay that on you.

SO, where are the picks? Don't tell me that you are too busy checking it out to give us another peek.
Oh and by the way, YOU ****!

That is EXACTLY what happened, lol! So I went back to pick it up and he had it in a sling and under his chain fall, lifted up an into the back of my buddy (mikeybikes) toyota (my truck has a topper on it :/) and headed off to my shop. My engine hoist was JUST able to get high enough to pick it out of the bed of the truck, then I had to close shop and run home!

Pics will come prolly this weekend when I move all my tools into it. (keep your eyes open for some vintage snappy boxes in the classifieds ;))

Well, it wasn't really as bad as it sounds, he told me he knew it was a good deal on the box, I was the first person to call (within about 2 minutes of him posting the ad) and that if he still had the box on hand for a few weeks then he would come down on price. The daughter thing was more of just a side note, he was really broke up about it, poor guy. REALLY nice old man, was in the Navy for a long time, had lots of cool old tools with many years of great stories behind them! All in all I don't feel bad about not getting a BETTER deal than I did! :)
