tuesday 9 am.

a snap on box is for sale 1 hour away from me for $1250. it appeared to be a kr-1000 box dated 1987 in fair condition. i talked the owner down to $1000 and told him to hold it for me for saturday.

seller agreed and i picked it up on saturday morning.

got it home and cleaned out the drawers and original linings. the box has been outfitted with all new roller bearings dated 1996? all the drawers pull out amazingly well without weight, with weight even better.

i even got the original key and it locks fine.

i am happy as a clam.

how did i do?

question:
where can i get a new chrome strip on the left side of my box and another key?

You MIGHT be able to fit the newer style lock cylinders on it. I retrofitted my 1993 box (which used the old "regular" keys) with the new round-style (where the key looks like an open end wrench end). I've also seen boxes where the area around the cylinder is too small in diameter to accommodate the new cylinders; I say pick up a lock set and check!

i don't want to change the lock. the key is badass. it is an actually snap on key and it looks very different.

says snap on on one side and the other side has a big S with key model numbers on it

my camera batteries died as it was charging the flash so for punishment it gets to sit in my truck over night and freeze to death and think about what it did to me.

Yeah you are right as 7.3L engine are best engines... But other techs way stay working as 6.0 and 6.4 has been keep them busy... Too many head gaskets failure because only 8 bolts hold on while 7.3 and new 6.7 engine have more head bolts now..

That little weird to work in ford as next to westgate dodge Chrysler jeep that they don't see a many cummins trucks go there like my work get a lot and lot... That why my work had built a new shop attached to make room for all diesel trucks to fix...

the head of the key is the shape of a flank drive socket approx 1" maybe 1-1/8" in size. it is outlined with the flank drive socket 6pt walls.

front says snap-on and under it says made in usa

the rear is a big S and bellow it, it says KZ337 the key number

this is not the traditional rectangle shape key head that just says snap on on it

I have 2 KR1000A boxes, and like them very much. I wish they had the big top drawer though. Heavy *** box though, eh?

yes it is very heavy and built like a rock.

yes there is a 3ft compartment on top for the prybar and huge 1/2" drive extension

what year is your box and have you been able to figure out what the A on kr1000A means? there are like 4 versions and none of them look any different

I've got the same box bought brand new in 88 also the kr1100 top and (don't remember the model #) side. Undeniably the cleanest/finest box SO ever produced. You can find nice examples pretty regularly on ebay or Craigs between 1K and 3K. I'd look for one of these before I purchased anything built today in that price range. Great Score!

Bought em both well used, so i have no clue on actual yr. I really don't know what the model would change on these. There are still some parts available from Snap-on.
If your box is in great shape, and you love it, then I would have to say it is a good buy @ $1000. I would hope to sell my worn one for that. My home box is a bit more beat up, and would be lucky to fetch $800.
Paid 8 and 6 for mine yrs ago. (best I can remember)

maybe it has something to do with the handle on the side of the box. i don't like it at all and i would rather have the flashy handle from a krl-661 box or equivalent.

any idea why they didn't tap holes in the side of the box to later ad a side box to it? a locker or a 2 shelf side box would be a nice addition

the top of this box is bigger then my computer desk and getting close to the size of our dinner table :+1:

What is the length of the chrome molding that you need? I bought a set last year off ebay that were too short for me, but might be long enough for you.

the difference between the KR1000 and KR1000A is that the A has the better pull handle on the side of the box and it has 2 sets of locks on the front.

not sure what the difference is between the kr1000a and b
