Meet at Home Depot and have a cashier scan it....good as cash.
Yup, nothing like getting $450 worth for $250. Some guy used about $50 off his gift and sold the rest. Bout half tempted to hang a sign on myself, Cash for Card.:bounce:

Just a thougth: You purchase card, seller then goes home and uses the code on back of the card to purchase something online ?

Only way I would buy cards is to meet at the store, have them scan it, tell them to buy a card with that card, give cash to person, pocket new good card that they have no clue of the numbers, etc.

I guess that would be a good idea, you would have to check first to see if you can use the card to buy another card.

Thinking of buying a new TV tomorrow from Craigslist.

Theres already ads up "I got two of these 42" LCD's for Christmas and I only need one"

similiar ads for every size of TV, every gaming console, pretty much every type of electronics

what the hell is going on? why can't they return this stuff to the store?

Kenners posted what is a well known scam. Jhelrey has posted the way to avoid the scam.

I'm sure there are good honest people left in the world...

But this is how people steal from retailers and make money off of it.

Care to explain?

Steal stuff from a store.

Return stolen merchandise for a refund. No receipt, so the thief gets store credit.

Sell "store credit" gift card on the internet.

I would be willing to bet that every single internet "deal" on a store gift card is actually the conversion of stolen merchandise into cash.

if you happen to get a gift card use it right away

I got many cards and got screwed once.

I met up with a person at canadiantire and verified the amount on the card.

Few days later card was invalid.

I think the person purchased the gift card with their credit card, sold it to me for cash, and then called the CC company and may have reported it stolen.

It ***** because you have no recourse. Only thing you can do is hope to find the guy.

Be careful guys

Some gift cards can be used like credit cards on the retailer website.

If the seller has the numbers/codes, the card can still be used, leaving you with a worthless physical card.

A prior suggestion was to use the card that is purchased to buy another, fresh gift card. This card will have new numbers, unknown to the seller.

Some retailers may not allow the purchase of a gift card, using a gift card.

I don't buy the credit card story. For that to work, the gift card serial numbers would need to be tracked at the time of purchase.

Person opens Home Depot credit card(maybe under their name maybe not). Buys lots of gift cards to sell. Then never pays off credit card. Store is SOL.

Well...credit card company is SOL in that case..but same deal.

You can also check in the gift card value online. I had a HD tape measure gift card in my desk that has been there for years (I think it came with the desk years ago). I check it online the other day and it still had $1.05 left on it - woohoo! :)

Today, I scored a cheap HF "12" ton press for $50. I'm on my way pick up a small sand blast cabinet for the same. It will fit well till great deal on a better bigger unit comes along and will still turn the same dollars or better when I'm done with it. It may even get donated to one of the boys future garages.
I may pick up a cheap vise for a kid at work who has the gumption to work on motorcycles on his own in the worst garage I've seen in a long time.

Some gift cards have expiration dates. Read them closely.

In my experience those that expire do so on the first day of the month specified, not the last day of the month specified.

And these were top name cards I was given by the company I work for as safety awards. I learned the embarrassing way. Nothing more embarrassing than using a company issed Walmart gift card that has a zero balance on it.

Just sayin'....

We didn't have any appreciable storms to warrant hoarding of generators this year. Thus, no sell off. That, coupled with the no-go economy that just keeps on going, I think the cheap generators are probably all in NJ this year. Get me a little diesel one and a Honda EU1000 will ya!

My CL score this week - $50

A small benchtop press. Rusty and crusty and the jack leaks.

My plan in the spring - bead blast it, paint it bright red/gray, and adding my brand new squatty 12 ton jack and bolting it to the bench top.

Not as nice as the new stuff, but it says Made in USA on it. And I prefer old codger type tools anyway. Damned thing weighs in at 122 lbs!

It ain't a super duper floor model from China, but it will meet my needs.
