Craigslist Toolbox.. How'd I do and what's in it?

Hey guys-

I picked up a Kennedy toolbox yesterday from a deceased machinists wife.




I'm going through it and cleaning it up and trying to sort out what I can use vs what I can't.

Transfer screws..

There should be a set of pointed plugs inside each of those transfer screw bodies.
The back side of the plug fits the size hole listed on the side of the holder, and they are pushed into holes in a piece that you want to **** up against another piece to mark hole locations, thus "transferring" the hole pattern to the new part.

The single flute countersinks are for aluminum or other soft materials

Sigh.......Another machinist who stored his cutting tools jumbled together like a heap of nachos.
At least the metrology is in a separate drawer.
Some stuff is good,- rules, micrometers, depth micrometer, dial indicators. Other stuff is typical drill bits, easy outs, dies and taps.

Nice set of boxes.

I paid $200 for the box. I think I can part with enough of it to make it a cheap purchase.

With some effort cleaning up and listing on CL all those machinist items, think you could get net effect of having a "free" set of toolboxes.

I wouldn't part with any of it. That's a good cheap price for a bunch of those little tools you don't normally find for sale but would cost a lot to buy them all new. Doesn't matter that they're a bit older and thrown together. You might use some bits once in a blue moon but when you do it'll save you 3 hours of stuffing around and $50 at the tool shop.

Drive it up here to VA and I'll give you $250 for the whole lot. That's a deal. Great find. I especially like the Starrett combo square set. That right there is $200 at least, go check ebay.

I would keep it all but certainly pieced out would bring all of your money back + some.

There's alot of great stuff there, especially for the price. Be careful what you throw away as alot of older guys made specialty stuff for certain jobs as they went and though it may look like trash can be incredibly useful if its purpose is found.

Good deal. As much as I don't like those kennedy machinist middle and top boxes, the tools and bottom make up for it. Are those 2 0.5" mics? If so what brand and graduation are they?

The Starrett measuring tools are worth more used then you paid for the whole package.

I'm with Playwme, I wouldn't get rid of anything. Tools are one thing I don't sell and Starrett anything are great tools. You got such a great deal, it's not worth parting with any of it.
