Hey guys. Thought you might appreciate this so Im posting up some pics of a Columbian vise I picked up this morning.

Last night I was looking through CL and saw an ad for an old USA made vise for $30. The guy didnt know what he had but I could tell from the fuzzy pictures it was a Columbian. All he knew was that it was made in the USA.

So I went over to his house this morning and he opened up his shed in the backyard. Sitting on the ground caked with dry mud, was this beauty. Well at least to me. Its my first big vise.

He must have saw the look on my face because he tried pulling the 'ol switcheroo on me. He had a small chinese pos vise that he said he was really supposed to have put on CL for that price. I said "No thanks. The one that I came to buy was the one you pictured on CL." I handed him $30 bucks and he counted it. Then said it was $35 for the vise and was $5 short. Told him to go check his ad on CL again and verify the price. He said nah its ok. I said great. Im out. Scooped up the vise with one hand and scooped up my 21 mo old son with the other and hightailed it out to my truck before he could make up another excuse not to sell it.

Anyway. The vise has 4" jaws and opens up to 6 1/2". Not sure of the weight of it, but its pretty heavy. Heres a few more pics. Im sure I'll be asking lots of questions about how to get this thing apart to clean it up later. Thanks.

I just picked up almost exactly the same vise last week. 41/2 jaws and about the same condition. Paid $50 for mine. Except mine isn't a swivel base.

you picked that vise up with one hand??!!!

Lol. Yeah I did. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. The vise jaws were all the way closed so I just slipped my hand under them and grabbed it. I haven't weighed it yet but it felt around 50 pounds. I kinda guesstimated the weight because my kid on my other arm weighs around 25 pounds, and the vise felt twice as heavy as he did. Pretty scientific, huh!

Once that new tool euphoria/ tooldrenaline sets in nothing can stop you. My srawny (140 lb ) *** was at a yard sale and hoisted an 80lb Parker up like nothing. It may as well have been made out of Papier-mâché. :)
Until the next morning that is :lol_hitti.

Any brand will do. I use Johnson's but there are other brands. Usually in the hardware store next to the wood stains and such. If you just wipe it down really well and buff it out it will protect the iron and leave a great patina.

Great deal. I bought one new the next size down with no swivel base back around 1980 and I think the price was aroun $90 then. Yes, I still have it in good condition and no, it's not for sale.

i didn't realize my granpa was hoarding vises at one of his farms. i opened a old chicken coop and first thing i saw was a mint condition 1970's sears garden tiller and the first step inside i stepped on a 6" orange wilton vice burried half way into the ground. there were about 8-9 more usa made vises in there

I found parts for mine on Google. I just searched the part # that is on the side on the vice opposite the Colombian logo and a place that has all the parts you need popped up. I think new jaws were about 100$ though.
