I picked these up today for $60. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/tls/4242093363.html I called him Friday night to pick his brain as to the size and makers since the ad was picless and pretty vague. He said they are "big suckers", but didn't know who they were made by. Once I got him to guarantee they were old USA made vises with no repairs or cracks I decided to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to take a looksee. I was going to my parents house anyway which is semi-close to where the vises were so I made a day out of it bringing my wife and son along.
On the way up I was looking at the ad and realized that it didn't specify if he was asking $60 a piece or for both
???? I figured I'd cross that bridge when I got there since I didn't get too much info from him over the phone. I'm naturally a pessimist when it comes to putting trust in what someone says about an item they are selling (especially CL
) so I assumed the worst.
I roll up to his house at 12:30pm and he is in his garage with one of his buddy's. We introduce ourselves, shake hands and get right down to business. The vises were on the side of his house under a couple of tarps. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning tearing those tarps off. This is what I undercovered........
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME
!! Once I saw the Parker 206 the deal was done. I was taking these home for $60 each or for both. It didn't matter because restoring the other for resale one would get me my money back. It was a no brainer, but I still had to ask. "$60 for both, correct?" I said. He said, "yeah they are just taking up space around here." HAPPY F'ING NEW YEARS TO BOOT
!!
The CP is missing the swivel wrench, but that's it. I am not sure about the other one since it's caked in old paint and surface rust. Looks like a Reed or maybe a Columbian, but I can't tell.
Today was a good day
