Crappy HF air chucks...

OK...a couple of months ago I was at Horrible Freight looking around while my wife was shopping next door.

I was just starting my air line install project in my shop and I picked up about a dozen air chucks for the ten drops I planned in my system.

Last week my buddy Sean and I finished up the last of the lines and put the air to the system..everything seemed OK.

My other friend John (hard to believe I have TWO friends!) came over to help me fabricate a bracket for my air dryer...he put the bracket in the blast cabinet to clean it up and NO AIR...it was connected to the system but NO AIR came thru the hose.

Something is not machined correctly in the chuck..it slides in ok...makes a connection...but will not allow air to pass thru. It's this way on at least six of these chucks...and the one we found that DID work won't allow enuff air to pass to use the blast cabinet.

So I went to Farm and Barn and bought a couple chucks from them AND THEY WORK....

When I did the air line install for my warehouse, I took my step-dads female air chucks. Found out later they are like $7 a piece, and I used about 15 of them. LOL They were brass or copper, I think brass.

These things are insane quality. I fondled it for about 10 minutes when I found the stockpile at the warehouse.

The HF's are steel...the GOOD one's I bought are brass...never seen this happen before...

I gave up on any air fittings and air hose from HF sometime ago. Had to many fitting blow apart at the wrong time.

Car show swap meets always have tool guys that sell the Milton and Acme air fittings for very reasonable prices.

Same thing with the air chuck that I purchased from Northern Tool recently. NT is close to me and does have a very good return policy though so it wasn't a big deal.

But yeah, the problem did make me my head for a while.

I use Milton fittings on most everything, they don't cost too much and the quality is always there so I stick with them. My pop has some old air fitting branded Schrader, I think they are either no longer being made or just not available around here. I prefer them to anything else I have used.

Amflo here... Actually, Krooser, Make sure your using 3/8 quick disconects Minimum for the blast cabinet, and 3/8 BODY couplers minimum for connection the hose to the wall... Think this might hae been your problem?

Can't remember where it's made, but you can find Amflo even at Home Depot. I have one of their whip hoses and it was the nicest one I could find for the $$$.

Most of Harbor Freight stuff is ****. That is why it is so inexpensive, it is replacable.

HD sells thier stuff and all of the couplers I have bought from them have been USA made, but I have a small 1/4 coil hose thats permanently installed for fillign tires and such and thats from taiwan. Im 75% sure that was an amflo.

Yes Amflo does both foriegn and domestic products. Some things just need to be well made air fitting couplers etc are some of those things.

The cabinet does need a lot of air especially with the worn out nozzle I haven't replaced. The Milton I put on later seems to allow enuff air flow.

Yep Amflo is domestic. If your after top quality quick connects Elroy would recommend Parker Hannifin. Chucks are like $10 each and plugs are $2 or so. Steel is the only way to go! Brass quicks wear out too fast and a 3/8 body fitting beats a 1/4" body hands down for flow. Then there are the "safety type" it all depends what you want and are trying to do.
