Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Craptains Quarters.

I've been on GJ forum for quite a few years now and never had my own thread.
Why not? I dunno, time is one reason, laziness maybe? nah not me. Or maybe just the fact that I don't spend as much time in my shop as I would like, and it's not always interesting when I'm there.
I'm officially retired, but I still work occasionally as a Captain, though now I just run small boats, mainly delivering boats to the new owners and mainly below 50 feet in length.
So about this shop. Not a garage as I can't get a vehicle in there and as far as possible don't even work on my own car anymore.
So what do I do there?
Well I have a very small mobile home in a retirement community and with that a very small shed. So my shop is where any larger projects take place. It's basically divided into Woodworking at one end and Machine shop at the other. Sometimes it's hard to see where one ends and the other starts.
And then I buy and sell stuff. I try to limit my range of interest but I get carried away sometimes
What I really enjoy is buying vintage machinery and refurbishing for resale. The machine shop helps me with this. Of course I have too many projects and I'll never catch up but what the hell.
I'm posting a couple of pictures but not the current layout. And likely to change at any time. I'll post a few more when I get home. I'm on a boat at the moment.

Or maybe it's just "very small" relative to your wants or ambitions? It's a lot more than most mobile home denizens have!

In any case, it's always interesting to get a glimpse of other peoples' shop spaces!

My home shed is 7 x 10. That's why I have to rent workshop space.
I "officially" rent 600 sq ft. But due to my long relationship with the owner I actually have about 800. 600 is behind locked doors and the rest is open to all tenants. But we respect each other's space. And yes, it's small compared to my wants and needs.

Back when I was a sailor, going to the Captain’s quarters was not always a good thing.

I have however had the privilege to visit the Craptain’s shop on several occasions and has always been a very pleasant experience although he does keep the doors open and sometimes characters do enter with lesser quality beverages but the Craptain’s hospitality always makes up the undesirable visitors.

It's been a while since I started this thread for a few reasons. First! I'm not a very good blog type person and getting to stay still long enough to write is tough for me. But secondly and primarily, my wife has medical issues and she will always come before shop for me.
But I have found a little time in there occasionally and I'm working out how to spend more time in there.
I always have stuff listed for sale and over the past few months I've started to see an uptick in sales. A couple of vises have gone along with a drill press and a couple of wood lathes. Plus a bunch of small stuff. And then there's my lathe. I got a tip from one of my enablers about a Monarch 10ee. And even worse it was within my budget. So to make room for it I sold my old SB 9a and the rest is history. I haven't used it too much yet but it's like a dream when I do.
I still have a long way to go in thinning out sufficiently to work easily but hopefully I'll be having a sale next month and clearing a bunch more. And I should be going to Flywheelers later this month and I'll be taking a few things with me.
So that's all I've got for the moment but I'll try and post a bit more often.

Well I guess I missed posting here what I posted in the Florida Chapter thread, but most interested folks will have read it there.
But to the update since then.
I agreed and went ahead and bought a new to me Bridgeport and a Harig 612 Surface grinder from fellow member Chrisb62. The machines are in beautiful condition and I would expect nothing less from Chris. But! They are 3 phase and I don't have 3 phase in my shop. So I set about getting an RPC. Naturally I found and bought one and almost immediately my landlord and his electrician let me know that I will be getting 3 phase. Things are slow both at home and at the shop so I still haven't gotten the machines up and running yet. But I'm hoping to spend a little time there in the next week or two.

Long overdue update.
I'll start by saying that I have all my machines except the surface grinder operational. And the Bridgeport has already earned its keep.
But due to my wife's health I have not been spending much time in the shop. There's no likelihood of any improvement in the foreseeable future either. But at the end of the day she is worth more to me than all the shop time. So it is what it is.
I have needed to reduce my "inventory" for several years and I do manage to sell or give away some stuff every so often. The latest piece to go was a Bridgeport vise with swivel base. Beautiful condition, but I use Kurt and don't have room for extras.
I have managed to get a little space almost set up for selling/storage small stuff and built some heavy wooden shelves to accommodate the stuff. If anyone is in the market for projects I can help you out with a few.
When I get back to my projects I will try to keep it manageable and more focused.
Well I guess that's all for now. I'll try and update more often.

That's not going anywhere. I actually use it more than the lathe.
