Did cross my mind as well. Red Back Spiders and Brown Snakes would be my biggest issue as they would just love the same area as living space.

I used a furniture dolly once to navigate a crawlspace of a friend running cables. It was a mobile home and it was concrete under there so it wasn't too bad. Except for the giant ducting that got in some of the way.

There was a documentary on over here recently where a team of archaeologists attempted to excavate Tom **** and Harry, they found the entrance shaft to the actual escape tunnel but had the same problems with the ground being soft, what reminded me of this was the fact they also excavated what had been a secret workshop and store under the camp theatre and actually found one of the tunnel trolleys (which looked exactly like the one above!)

I LOVE the great escape. Haha yea who knows what kind of poisonous things are down there. We are pretty lucky to have so few poisonous things in comparison to Australia where everything seems to be. Fantastic idea by the way.

I'd like to figure a way to power the sled. This COULD work under my house, I'd just have to cut an access hole in the exterior stucco so I wouldn't have to go in through the tiny California basement.

I'll never do it but its fun to think about.

I have some piled up dirt in my crawl space from me digging some drainage runs to my sump pump. I was thinking of doing this same thing to ferry out the dirt in 5 gallon buckets. Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking this is a great idea.

With all the wires and cables hanging loose, if there's a fire, shouldn't be a problem as to the origin... I'm in Florida, kind of agree with the crawing/slithering creatures that live as well in the dark underworld. They don't bother me but I rather not reach into a nest expecting to pull out something else!

Interesting nonetheless. I considered something similar for my attic. It's a long low crawl to get to a gable fan up there. Have had to replace it 3 times in 25 years, I think. I hate that crawl.

There needs to be a dedicated thread on the subjects of:

- Maximizing crawl space use

and another on

- Garage elevators to overhead space using Harbor Freight winches as the power.

I think some of the ingenious guys here could teach us all something.
