Hi guys.

I have a Fantech FR150 fan that ventilates a crawl space under the basement floor. Seems like the bearings are going because it’s getting louder and quite annoying.

Fantech has a fan that might be better for this application According to them. It’s the RN2X fan.

The new FR150 has max 324 CFM compared to my current 230.

The input piping is 4” PVC DS3000 PVC sewer pipe. The inline fan has 6” flanges on both sides. The exhaust side of the fan is 6” sheet metal ducting that goes to the outside.

Currently, the 4” pipe connects to 4” to 6” reducer and the coupler is screwed into the pvc pipe and the fan’s flange. On the other side, the sheet metal ducting is screwed to the fan‘s flange and covered in gray mastic.

My friend was over and said that I could use rubber/pvc couplers to connect the existing ducting to the new fan And isolating the dusting a bit might make it quieter. These couplers have worm gear clamps on each end. I talked to a plumbing supply house and they were a bit unsure about what sizes I would need for the various end of different material and recommended I call Fernco. This company has every PVC coupling known to man. Great! Then the gal in customer service said that their couplers are intended for asbestos, cast iron, ductile iron, pvc piping and they are rated for 4.3PSI and no vacuum. OK?

So I called Fantech and Fridays are not great for good detailed info since the guy said the inline RN2X fan has a 1.7” max SP rating and that is the same as PSI. The Gal at Fantech said that is wrong and she wouldn’t know how to convert the numbers.

Does anyone have a guess what PSI might be in the 6” sheet metal ducting using the max 324 CFM fan? How does the static pressure figure into this scenario. FANTECH makes simialr fans thst have different SP ratings.

Thanks for the help!

It’s just to ventilate the space. Not radon specific. This system is effective is venting the space.
was asking about the PSI that a 325 cfm fan would generate in a 6” exhaust duct. Seems like Fernco couplers are used in other in-line fan kits so there shouldn’t be an issue.

The crawl space has vapor barrier mechanically fastened to the foundation walls and the basement floor is a concrete poured over corrugated steel panels supported by steel I beams.
