I have a breaker, 3 phase that you can dial in it's trip point..........Can it be used on a 100 or a 125 amp feeder to my single phase shop? I understand it's not code, nor UL listed. Just wanted to know IF it's doable.

The breaker would have to be installed in a Hoffman enclosure which is a moot point if the above isn't doable.

I'm not really sure what the question is. are you asking if you can mount this breaker in a jbox and use it to run a feeder I guess the answer is yes. nothing code about it tho. many times you have to mount those on a back plane in the box and use an insulator sheet between the breaker and the back plane. as far as what the trip point will be, that will depend on the breaker. you will have to look at the data sheet and see what the range of settings is.

Sorry. It will definitely have to be mounted in an enclosure. I can do that no problamo. The root question is if I can use a 3 phase breaker to service a single phase feeder? IE, I would be using only 2 of the 3 poles (not sure if that's what their called) on the breaker..........Now that I say it that way I'm not so sure it would work as it's a variable, or adjustable trip. If memory serves this breaker had one adjustment not three.

I think I just answered my own question.

What brand, frame of breaker? Pictures help, but a 'ho made enclosure is not going cut it & if the breaker is for motor protection, it will be a no go, it could be cheaper to buy 2 pole breaker & enclosure then to use something sitting around.

if the breaker has gfi protection then it's a no go for sure. other than that i would think that you could scab something together, as much as it pains me to think about it

No, why would you do this? I understand the question from the OP and I could be reading this wrong but why would a code beater like a couple masters entertain this as anything but a brain fart?
