i'm about to buy a house with a detached two car garage probably dating back to the 1930s or 40s. It has an interesting center beam, which is a 2X? laid horizontally instead of the traditional vertical, supported by two lolly columns with pipes triangulating the top of the column to overhead beams. from the center beam to the roof is an unusual truss-like arrangement of steel supports. the photos are not great, but hopefully you can get the idea. anyone have any experience with this arrangement? The inspector said architecturally it can support "one hell of a load."
