The VIM new released style double box ratcheting wrench in my opinion is the perfect idea on the market, most of the others are only flex head ratcheting with no deep offset,no reverse;

However,their price is damn crazy,for a set of 7pcs from 8-14mm,they want $341.13???

Who is VIM tools,are they made in USA?

If some brand could release the same set from 8-24mm,i would pay 300$+ for MADE IN CHINA,500$+ for MADE IN TAIWAN;

GEARWRENCH/TEKTON/CAPRI/ICON/WORKPRO/TOOLANT,ARE YOU LISTENING?

How do you guys think?How much would you pay for the VIM or for those made in taiwan/made in china brand for a set from 8-24mm?

There not perfect because the ratcheting is spline. Would be perfect if they were 12 point. And also if they were made by another company.

That's what they're calling an "offset" these days? A deeper box opening? When I see the term "deep offset" used in conjunction with DBE wrenches it usually applies to the shank being offset on both ends, typically 45*.

Ironically, VIM made deep double offset DBE wrenches in the 1930's. 12-pointers! (No flex. No ratcheting. :))

(Sorry. I was just scanning the forum and saw "VIM" and "DBE" in the thread title and couldn't resist. I don't know anything about the current company. They had a decent reputation, made some of their own tools, but a lot of their tools were third party production even back in the day.)

The Vim should be called 0 ° offset

Does anybody really need 8mm, 9mm, and 11mm extended, double boxed, and reversible wrenches? It seems a no skip set going from 10mm to 19mm would be more practical. And be 12 point, of course.
10-19mm at 199$,that will be a winner winner chicken dinner.

Problem is VIM want 700$ for a set from 8-19mm,who are they targeting?

The reason they made these in spline is cause it’s cheaper. They aren’t that stupid to think some people prefer spline ratcheting end. They know everybody prefer 12 point. But the original tooling on those mountain wrenches is spline.

What's the hatred for spline. They work for me and the 50,000 other people that have bought the Mountain, ICON, and whatever other brand sells these. All they are suppose to do is turn a bolt and for that purpose they work fine.
My proto spline ratcheting wrenches are great... And reversible. Not flexible though. Is 12 point better? No idea.

FWIW I’m just a DIYer and home gamer. Those Icon branded Kabos turn my bolts just fine.

I’ve had it get stuck on bolts and nuts and had to yank them out after

spline is a gimmick tbh

Ofcourse a person from Arizona doesnt understand why the splines **** :)
Because my hardware could be SAE or Metric depending on how much time it had to rust :)

Ok wise *** answers aside its because if you hardware is marginal it will round it faster than you can say "rust belt".

I don't mind spline per say, but I feel that even on clean bolts they bite in just
often enough to need to deploy the reverse switch to pop the wrench loose.

I wasn't happy with the throw on the ratcheting mechanism of the tekons I have, that may be why I overlooked them. I have some of the old 6 pt double ratcheting box ends, and I'm not a huge fan.

Although the ones I have are MI PRC not Tiawan, so maybe the new ones are a bit better.

I did look at the snap-on's, but I didn't need them enough to justify the price.

Ok you shared a video now you gotta share your thoughts. What are you saying?

I don't think his results were conclusive, but they do provide a data point evaluating different types of wrenches.

They evaluated spline / 12 pt / 6 pt

6 pt wins.

Depending on the manufacturer, sometimes 12-point wins sometime turning things before rounding them off.

They did a video using Proto ratcheting wrenches with spline and it gripped much better than a lot of things and that's actually what I have, or one of the things I have. I've been very happy with them. I figure if it beats up the head it was probably on tight enough that I might have needed to have replace that bolt anyway.

ToolAnt. popular Amazon PRC made wrench set. $79.99 for 8-19mm no skip set. Reversible, 12 point 90 tooth ratcheting flex head boxed end on one side, Fixed zero offset boxed end on the other side. No socket like extrusion on the ratcheting boxed end. Standard length, NOT extra long. Satin finished Not perfect but, pretty decent wrench set for the coin involved. I waited years for a standard length set and was surprised when Toolant of all peeps released a standard length set to market :wtf:
There are more extra long sets available than one can count but, the number that are reversible are few and far between. Capri makes an excellent double boxed end reversible flex head set 8-19mm but, they're spline and always out of stock. Beefy beams.

Thank you Fed,yes i already know toolant,and had been looking on them,they have some good design wrenchs,but i wish they could pay more to the quality consistent;
As i said,i wish some PRC brand could release the KABO style double box with socket extrusion,and VIM style with one side box end,one side flex with reverse,with socket extrusion,i prefer to use Non-ratcheting end first;

The capri(made in taiwan) was pretty good,but never been in stock;

How was you mid-length toolant perform till now?

Standard length link https://www.amazon.com/toolant-Ratc...mm-Storage/dp/B0FSDTBLTY?tag=atomicindus08-20

They do make an XL length, but pricier ($119) and also have a set including 21-24 (169). Link below is 8-19 XL set (not sure why it says 21-24 in link)
Thank you Cruzan,toolant seems like good budget free PRC brand, i wish they release more innovative hand tools with more quality control.
