Would love to do that for you. We are in the beginning stages of doing custom cabinets for a local home builder. They have some really beautiful woodgrains along with marble and other designer films.

How about like an engine turned metal or some sort of similar pattern? I am rebuilding the dash insert for my 54 ford, and the original was engine turned, but I might like something jsut a little different.

Not following your meaning by engine turned but I'm still a little wore out from eating so it could be all me:bounce:

Engine turned:

Typically done on aluminum with a polishing wheel.

Thanks PAToyota, that is it exactly!

Another idea, if I can find a pattern, would be a geometric grid pattern used on the dash inserts in some old auburns or deusenburg or some sort of higher dollar mid 30's car.. I will look and see if I can find an example. I know I saw one on the hamb just cant remember where it was lol! :lol_hitti

lol. Yeah, I have thought about something like that before. I thought about a plaid version of a two tone truck. But I was going for something like this. These were offered on some V6 Chevy engines back in the 60s. They came like this from the factory.

So can any graphic done in a computer be applied?
Is the graphic heated to cure after it is applied?
this is a very fine coating i assume.
sorry for all the questions, can it applied to any hard surface?

That is cool. Wonder how they applied that back then?

You can have your own artwork generated to film but it's very expensive. We worked with an AR-15 manufacturer on a proprietary print and they had over 10k stuck into it by the time we received it.

It's a 3 day process, we prep the part by sanding and/or a chemical bath if it's metal sans paint, primer, basecoat, dip then we clear coat with an automotive(PPG)top coat. If it's a weapon we use paint and top coat formulated to use on firearms.
We sometimes cure it with a florescent lighting but usually just let it air dry.

It can be applied to just about any surface, even shoes. Seen Crocs with camo? This is the same process used to do that. The restrictions would be something that would bend enough to crack the clear coat. Can't do rubber either. Poly or ABS we do all the time.

I've wondered the same thing but couldn't find anything about it. Seems like they're pretty rare and get around 200 bucks on ebay. I don't think there is enough interest in that engine (305 V6) to make copies of them for a profit, but you never know.

I think they look pretty cool though and if I didn't already have some nice Edelbrocks I would think about getting some valve covers like that for my SBC.

BTW, this is a really cool thing and I will definitely be looking at this in the future. I've seen videos of glowing red turbos, so I wonder about how it will hold up on a turbo, but I will be interested in other applications.

We did the compressor side of a turbo and it's holding up fine.

Something like this? We can make the basecoat lighter also.
We have some carbon fiber patterns that are a little tighter here: http://crc2.net/?page_id=996

hmmmm not so much, the dash insert is going in a traditional styled build, and I think a carbon fiber look would clash too much with the rest of the car.

Want it to at least look like something that could have been done in the mid to late 50's, even if it is from newer materials or more reliable/safer parts etc..
