Creating a belt line on a high ceiling

My wife and I closed on our new home yesterday. I am thinking some garage paint and flooring work will be done this coming easter weekend. My dilemma is that the garage has 16' ceilings. This is a good thing I know; it leads to plans of Jackmaster garage door openers and two post lifts but the problem is painting the walls! Its finished all the way up with a finished ceiling.

Right now the walls are a beat up white, they are painted but they are pretty beat up and need a fresh coat of color for sure.

What is everyone's thought on creating a 10' high beltline with some trim and only paint up to that. I have a ladder that would allow me to paint at 10' but I dont want to get into scaffolding and trying to trim out a 16' ceiling line. Do you think that this beltline idea would look tacky? I think it might be kind of cool. I will probably have garage gator type storage in the upper 4-6 feet anyway with lighting above that so it may be not such a big deal. It might be a good way to bring the visual roof line down and distract the eye from the goods stored up above.

Any input would be great!

My old shop had 20' finished ceilings, the first 8' or so was painted a blue color, and the rest white. I wasn't crazy about the blue color but I liked the half and half. White on top makes for great lighting.

I think I did pretty much what you're considering. For me it worked as I had hoped.
