The engineering firm I work at just finished digitizing a lot of our historical drawings and documents. It's great that we're moving towards a paperless workflow, but now we have a room with about ten dozen 4 drawer metal filing cabinets. Anyone have any creative uses for them? We're welcomed to take as many as we want. It'd be a shame to see them tossed, as half of them are USA made.

I would take as many as you can store, then worry what to do with them.

I have a friend who collects vintage racing karts and he keeps all of his spare restored engines in them. Pretty sweet to see three pristine race engines per drawer, after drawer, after drawer, cabinet after cabinet...

Like this little bit of stuff I picked up from him a while back.

Aside from files, I store power tools, ammunition, books..pretty much anything in them.

Once the get beat up pretty bad, I cut all the sheet metal off and use it for other things.

I have more questions than answers.
Put them on harbor freight carts. I have some for electrical another for plumbing. Another grinders, another power tools.

Paint supplies, parts, bolts, etc. Once you start using them you'll come up with all kinds of uses. The carts will allow you to roll to were you are working and for cleaning up the shop.
