Cree 48" LED replacement

Tired of my old ballast fluorescent light giving me start up problems so I was looking at this:

These kits are about $150 from Ganger but if they work well...

I did a search but didn't find anything about this subject. Anyone play with this or something like it?

I've never used them; but my first reaction is, that's an AWFUL lot of money just to solve a start-up problem. For a lot less, you could simply replace your old ballast(s) and tubes, or even the whole fixture, with more reliable fluorescent equivalents.

Or, if you are bound and determined to go LED, then there are probably better ways. For example, IF your ceilings are high enough, these:

would provide about 3-4 times the light, for only marginally more money.

Well the Chinese won on this issue. My wife didn't like the "Industrail" look of the fluorescent light even though it was recessed in the ceiling so it was nixed. I went to Blowes and found this for $80:

Install was EZ but with Chinese quality stuff.

44-watt LED ceiling fixture
2200 lumens of brightness

It looks good, the light is bright and wife likes the dimming feature. No buzz or humming noises, instant on.

Done.

I bought fluorescents with electronic ballasts and they start up immediately.

We have a project at our church to replace fluorescents with LED bulbs. They require some rewiring as they don't use the ballast. They are 4 ft , look exactly like the flourescent, mini pin set up on a t8. Basically , you take out the ballast and rewire one tombstone with hot and the other en with a ground directly connected to the supply. Look no different than fluorescent lighting.

I believe the project man said the bulbs were about 29 bucks each with non profit discount , etc...I will email and ask about the specifics. I don't remember the specific brand or anything.

I'd like to know more about those. It would have cost me $120 dollars to do the retro fit on my light @ $30 per bulb.
