Creepers? What do you recommend?

I need to get a creeper to just slide under my rock crawler. Happily I don't have to lift if to work on it, but I'm constantly in and out from under it.

And I'm also going to be detailing my boat soon, and I think a creeper with an adjustable headrest (tilt) would be vital since I'll be under a 24' footer with a power buffer for days.

What do you guys have, use, recommend?

My wife bought me one of the last wooden, made in the USA, Craftsman creepers several years ago. I love the "old school look" and it works great, although half of the time I just lay some cardboard down and lay on that. Old habit.

dog bone
they make a generic version now as well, big 4" caster so you can roll over extension cords, small nuts and bolts and not get stuck, I got it years ago when I had tong hair as the wheels are covered so my hair wouldn't get caught

TN... too bad.. I have three... don't use them. With a lift, one of those seats with casters is the best... if I have to go on the floor, a foam pad or the kids puzzle pads is better or like Zeke said, one of those Yoga pads.

I have been using a basic craftsman for about 10+ years now does the job nothing fancy. sometimes I use it as a headrest or a under car tool trolley when I am under a car and need that extra couple inches of clearance and cant lay on it.

HF creeper is not quality by any means. If you heavier or plan to use it to sit upright on skip it as it'll flex and rub on the ground making harder to move around on.

You don't need an expensive dogbone but the standard wooden or metal framed ones would suit most.

I weigh 167lbs so I don't need anything big. And while I agree with the cardboard statement, I have an epoxy floor that I keep very clean, it's not about getting dirty. It's about crawling in and out, in and out, in and out, in and out, etc. And having to drag and scoot all over the place for the tools.

Plus, like I said, this will also come in handy on detailing the bottom of the boat.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll go by Northern Tools or something and just pick something out. Didn't know if there were any "awesome" creepers that I just didn't know about.

I use a Jeepers Creeper myself. Hopefully within the next year or so I'll have a lift in the shop so I won't really need that anymore lol.

I don't have a specific recommendation but I would suggest either something cheap enough that you won't be upset when it gets run over or strong enough that you can run over it without destroying it. My current creeper has lasted a couple of decades (knocks on wood) but for a while I was replacing it about once a month! I'm a slow learner I guess.

Do not get one of those plastic Torins from Advanced and such places. I've busted two already. I think the one have now came from Jegs. Albeit, made overseas but it has a metal frame and it's much sturdier than the Torin.

I have a harbor freight creeper but it's not one of the plastic ones. It has a metal frame and a padded cushion. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. The epoxy floor makes sliding in and out from under the vehicle a lot easier unlike concrete where you have to scoot.

I don't have a specific brand to recommend, but I will say that if you are 6ft. or taller, you might look at one that is somewhat longer than standard. I have a standard length plastic one which is great quality-wise, but the darn thing is just too short for me. I find that when I lay down so that my **** is in the right place, my head is hanging off. It's a pain in the neck (literally). I would also agree with you on the adjustable headrest if you're planning on spending lots of time on it.

X2 on that... I've owned more different creepers and different types of creepers than you can imagine and the all sucked...
Not that I'm crazy about crawling around on the ground to work, but when I am, you'll find me on a sheet of cardboard..

DONT get a design like this. Your shirt and fingers will get caught in the wheels and it will throw you into fits of rage (or at least thats been my experience)

Personally, I like the Jeepers Creeper by Lisle. They make them with large or small wheels. The Bone creeper also has great reviews

If you need one, dont screw around and buy the cheapest one that is on the shelf. I use mine all the time, I dont have a lift. I have one with an adjustable head rest, and I had to put some bolster on that. ( I have a head trauma, so I cant really hold my head up when I lay flat) I also have the tool tray on each side, so I can keep the tools I need on each side, so that I can just reach down and grab them.

I also think its a great way to just get away, crawl under the truck and just fall asleep, seems weird, but feels great. so, do some looking at them then decide what you want, because they dont go bad and you are stuck with it forever.

After fighting with a couple of creepers, I bought a BONE creeper. I'm happy with it. I think people either like them or hate them.

I still have a sheet of cardboard to use occasionally.

A funny side note. One of my instructors for the Mercedes ELITE program (post tech school, pre employment school) told us not to embarrass ourselves by showing up to work the first day with a creeper. He said that only whores make their living on their backs lol. Not at all relevant here but the discussion of creepers just jogged my memory.

I have the early version of the Snap On heavy duty creeper, I've used it daily for close to fifteen years now and it shows now sign of wearing out any time soon. I'm pretty happy with it, although it feels pretty heavy when your hair is stuck in one of those big wheels.

DOG BONE....Best creaper you can buy IMHO. Rolls easy, as stated before will roll over extension cords, nuts and bolts lying on floor. Check them out on Summit racing. I think they are 100.00 bucks, but money well spent......
