Crimp connectors

Hey guys, I am looking for a good source for bulk quantities of non insulated electrical connectors like **** connectors, spades, rings, etc.

I am also looking for some jaws for my ratcheting crimped that will do the series 56 connectors that have the dual crimp for the wire and the insulation. Do you know of any good and relatively inexpensive ones?

Ebay is where I get mine. I buy them by the 100 pack. Wish has some too but I’m not sure there are any uninsulated. Friend of mine picked up some interesting **** connectors. They shrink down after very tight. A small crimp band on each end and a band of very low melt point solder in the middle. Somehow that solder melts when you shrink it down. From the look of it great for outdoor stuff though I haven’t gotten a chance to get any yet.

I've got a drawerful of crimpers that I've bought to do Packard 56 terminals. The only one that is any good is a generic ratcheting handle frame with MSD 3506 jaws. The crimper frames all take the same jaws, so I bought a used one at a swap meet for $15 or so. The jaws cost me about $45. It was well worth it. Every crimp on the Packard 56 terminals looks just like OEM. These jaws will do Weatherpack also.

Elecdirect.com has a very large selection of non insulated and insulated crimp fittings. I use them exclusively. They are comparable to Panduit which in my option are the highest quality. You can order 100 pc or 1000 pc quantity.

Where I buy all my stuff. plus they're local to me. Great selection and price. I generally only buy 3m connectors. Just found them to take the crimp tool better if that makes sense.

Funny, I have been shopping for the same ! The two big brand names are TE/AMP Solistrand and Molex Krimptite or VesraKrimp

Any of the online electronic warehouses (DigiKey, Mouser, Allied, etc) carry Solistrand but the are not cheap.

Waytek has a good selection of Molex and their prices are better,

The best are 3m crimp-solder-shrink connectors. You crimp them, then use a heat gun which melts tbe solder inside the connector, soldering the wires together and also shrinks the adhesive lined tubing around the connector and wires. They are awesome.
I get them from Terminal Supply in Troy MI.

i prefer the deutsch connectors over weather pak or metri pak . they are really about the same cost. just use the open barrel type pins as they are less money.

I really like Deutsch closed barrel connectors. You just cannot stuff up a single crimp.

I much prefer non-insulated, with a Klein crimp tool and marine grade heat shrink, to insulated terminals. Forget where I got mine, probably Waytek or Del City, but I have a bunch still.

I like Molex Versakrimp brazed seam connectors. They make them in many different options. I typically get them from Digi-Key. The ones mautotech are talking about are GREAT as well. Extremely secure, but they are expensive around $1 per connector. I get those ones from McMaster. Sorry for the long winded reply.

I would also like to build up a selection of non insulated terminals and heat shrink after crimping, so much better crimp job vs an insulated terminal.

What is the advantage of the double crimp (insulation and conductor)? Should I be considering that over the standard crimp terminals?

I found some nice deals from Sherco automotive for kits, anyone used them? They tell me the terminals are made by Hillsdale terminal in the USA.

I use a lot of ring terminals, if I have to a spade connector, sometimes use **** connectors. Both these kits, especially the 2600, have a lot of blade quick connects. Are these that common anymore, and if so what situation? I cant remember the last time I used one (diy and farm repair) but maybe Im missing something? Might be better off making my own "kit".

I use Waytek but fair warning their shipping prices are high. I'm close enough that standard UPS is only one day shipping so that keeps me from bitching too much. But you really want to have a decent order together just to combine the shipping.

Glad to hear it beforeI went and bought any. They really look good but seemed too good to be true. How can you possibly have a solder that melts before plastic. I guess somethings just aren’t meant to be[emoji6]

EBay has been disappointing to me. It is hard to guarantee material and supply chain quality, integrity, and transparency due to 1) China 2) Unscrupulous sellers 3) “Psuedo-Products”/Fakes and Packaging

I'd estimate that every airliner produced in the past 25 years uses literally thousands of these, if not more. There's probably garbage versions of these but quality ones are a proven technology.

On cars and truck, ALL of the pins in a multi-pin connector are crimped. They use very few ring terminals (mostly grounds) and they are crimped. Where they do a but splice for multiple conductors inside of a harness they are crimped with some kind of copper split ring and then wrapped in old fashioned "friction tape".
