I recently got the Klein 1005 crimper and I was wondering do you need to have a deft touch or hammer down when squeezing the handle to mashe the fitting around the wire.

In other words, is it important to apply the correct amount of pressure?

Thanks

I've had this crimper since the early 90's. Good for my uses. Shouldn't have to go ape on them to crimp speaker wire. I normally just apply enough force to feel the handles flex and it's good. Squeeze 'em with nothing in them and you'll feel what I'm talking about.

I'd also reckon it depends on what material you're crimping too. i.e. steel, copper, aluminum.

I'd say it depends on the wire size but since it's speaker wire... As long as you give it a pull test, should be just fine either way.

I was always scared of the pull test. I figured even if it didnt pull the crimp apart, that it weakened it. Kind of like taking a bat to a pillar holding your house up to see if it is sturdy. Fwiw
