In case you haven’t been shopping lately, here is a screenshot of the current price of one 4x8 sheet of OSB at my nearest Home Depot.

I joked with my wife last night about all the 2x4 studs I have to take out of my converted carport (converting back to a carport to get to the new garage) In any other time, I would just demo them and throw them out or cut them up for scrap material. I'm honestly now convinced I can denail all the sheetrock nails and actually sell the material for a decent profit.

I did joke I could buy a Tesla with the $.

Crazy, when I bought that same thickness for the attic in the garage last Sept/Oct, I was pissed it was around $40/sheet. I'm glad now that I look back.

If you decide to sell it on Fleabay, be sure to use the term "organic". It will bring a higher price!

We have a guy nearby who has a small stand selling bundles of firewood. His sign states "Organic Firewood for sale" Makes me chuckle every time I see it!

Nahh... I'd be more ambitious and label it vegan! :lol_hitti

My wife still doesn't understand all the value in my collection of pre-owned lumber. I think most women are like that.

I just bought 14 2x8's 14' long for $109 at a saw mill in Chama NM to close in a 12' x 12' ceiling opening above my workbench to help contain the warm air better from my new Hot Dawg furnace. The lumber was milled from standing dead Engleman Spruce. I'll cover the joists with 1" x 6" lumber and dry wall the underside of them.

14 2x8s would run you almost $450 at my Home Depot. They would be 16 feet long though so you’d be stuck with a small pile of 2 foot cut offs.

Riding bicycle through the park with my son this morning and in the dumpster was:

2) 4'x8'x1/2" B/C Plywood
1) 3'x8'x1/2" B/C Plywood
1) 16"x8'x3/4" Particle board
1) 3/4"x4"x36" Oak
1) Rolling work table ~18" square, 36' tall with Casters made from ~$100 of 2x4's

It was all still there when I went back ~8 hours later - it's in my garage now :)

My score on the Facebook Marketplace: "Free pallets and Plywood". Their photo only showed about 15 pieces of osb. Turned out to be 120+ pieces 12x96!

One of my brother's friends just asked him to help build a ramp after her father suffered a heart attack and is using a walker. He was already building 4+ large mailbox posts to hold about four boxes with a paper box underneath and knew the crazy cost of lumber. He told me the 4x8 sheets of Sturdi Floor plywood we used in building my kitchen cabinets was about $17, now it's more than $75. That ramp is going to be expensive!

Despite the Derek Chauvin trial having ended (still awaiting sentencing), many stores left the plywood installed over doors and windows even out in the third ring of suburbs. I told my brother to do a Craigslist search and bookmark it. He lost his job recently and might be able to find some at a great discount...maybe he can find some OSB or plywood for my garage walls for after I get it rewired and insulated.

I'll be the first to admit I save lumber scraps now that would have been kindling a year ago...
+1

Finally got the last of the prior owner's work benches and storage shelves torn down a couple weeks ago. Lots of 3' and 5' long 2x4's and with no known projects in the future I normally would have tossed most and kept the best...with current pricing I kept everything over about 2' long and the shorts went in a bucket for driveway firepit fuel in the neighborhood.

This post remind me of something a just seen a week or so ago....it was a picture of a pickup with 3 or 4 pieces of OSB in the back and the caption was something along the lines of "Look at this a$$hole flaunting his money" Made me laugh....but almost sad at the same time because of the truth behind it!

For Pete's Sake, use to mix epoxy at least! Sheeeesh!

That's funny, because I had actually just finished using it for a backup, drilling through thin sheet metal. So in reality it had been recycled at least once!
