Cross bar style pullers

2 jaw gear/pulley pullers are on my list of tools that when you need it, you need it. I'm looking into a set. I don't have the desire, nor the funds to drop $400-$700 on a Snap-on CJ2002 set but I am not having a ton of luck other than a single import set I found on Amazon.

Does anyone have any leads on a mid-grade set?

Try Ebay for Snap-on. You just have to buy the pieces you need. The great thing about Snap-On pullers is everything is interchangeable and you can build whatever setup you need.

Look at OTC 4534 on Amazon at $145. If you need additional width or jaw depth coverage, you can add an OTC 4532 for about the same price, and the jaws from both sets are interchangeable, so for around $300 total you'd have near twice the width and depth coverage as the $700+ Snapon set. FWIW, OTC has been making pullers for about as long as Snapon has been making tools, and is the de facto standard for pullers in industrial settings.

I have a large bar-type puller I don't really need. We used it at work one time to pull an 18" gear off a machine. I'd let it go for a reasonable price if I can find all the parts for it. I'll be up near Madison in a couple of weeks.

eBay and a couple days of refreshing “Newest listings” a few times a day should save you some $$$.

Unfortunately OTC has succumbed to manufacturing a lot of their tools in china. Their older stuff was excellent. There was a post about this here about 5 years back.

I have the snap on set shown above, paid 250 for it, it was new in the box when I purchased it.

I also have CJ2004 set that I bought off a facebook market place seller for 200. I should have bought the rear axle puller set he had for 150 too but I debated to long if I needed it and it sold.

I found a complete set like in the first link in a box of **** at an estate sale for the grand sum of $3.

I have some of the Kukko German pullers. But I got them used off ebay or other places over the years.
But they are spendy today New if you can find them in USA.

Got it together and it looks like an Armstrong 71-576 .
Used one time

Older Proto are also excellent options for cross-bar/ beam type pullers.

As said, Proto if you want USA and not SO . I also have OTC Taiwan . Proto also makes 3 jaw bar pullers

I got several Armstrong pullers of different styles, brand new, from Cripe Distributing for dirt cheap. I don't if they still have any, but if they do, and you want an American made puller for an outstanding price, check them out.
