I'll have to google them. Cheapest I found was k tools from. Advanced auto for $35. Sounds like Napa will be getting $50 from me soon enough. Autozone dropped the ball on this one.. just standard crow..

I bought the Craftsman branded SK sets from Sears last year for $56 a piece. Cripes was blowing them out for less than that IIRC.

Sunex makes great sockets, I'd imagine their crows feet are good too, and for only $30...

I got the sunnex 10 piece metric set "flare head" style from amazon for about 25$ worth every cent! no skipped sizes, and they work . As many have stated, crowsfeet are not always needed, but when it is the only thing that will work..they get the job done!

I did use pb blaster and tapped it with a hammer, but in the end it made no difference and i'll tell you why. The idiot who serviced the fuel filter before I bought the car put red locktite on the damn threads haha. Nothing would have knocked it loose.

well yea, that does make a difference..

Well, a good dose of heat would have.

Just break out the propane or mapp gas, light 'er up and give that fuel fitting a nice warming up , then wrench away.

Hahaha I think the previous owner may have pissed the technician off, so the technician put the red locktite on thinking that the only way to get it off in the future is to cut the line and replace it, costing the owner more money I never even thought I could connect such a long string of swear words like I did that day. Fun times.

That's a great idea about getting a dremel and making an indent for the retaining ball...didn't think about that.

Update bump

Got the Evercraft metric flares today. Got the sae on order for next week. Very satisfied with the quality, fit and finish. The lettering feels it won't wear off quick.

Now to add a few more questions.
When I have both sets, would there be any need for a standard set? (non flare) and would I still need a regular set of flare nut wrenches?

Yes there is a need for the standard set as well. I've worked on japanese cars that will have a 1/2" size flare nut instead of a metric sized nut and the metric sizes will slip, causing the nut to round off. And definitely invest in some flare nut wrenches. They're my go to flare anything. Although they're pricy and I don't usually go for snap on, their flare nut wrenches are the best in the business and you really do not want to cheap out on flare nut wrenches. They're built like a tank.

It depends somewhat. A non-flare crowfoot wrench is able to slip directly onto a nut from the side, whereas a flare nut crowfoot has to have the clearance to be able to drop down onto the nut or bolt head from above. There isn't always room to do that, but to be honest I have never encountered that issue (that I can recall) while performing any general car maintenance task, which is what you mentioned that you are wanting them for. That vertical drop clearance can make a difference sometimes with a bit more in-depth tasks like drive shaft removal, turbo disassembly, etc.

My main (95%) use for non-flare crowfoot wrenches is for home plumbing (SAE), for holding the bottom nut in an awkward "jam nut" situation when working with all-thread on home projects or when working with some yard equipment cable adjusters. In the automotive field, for me it has pretty much just been holding the heads of bolts in tight areas while I thread and tighten the corresponding nut on the other end (mostly metric but some SAE).

i have 1 flare nut crowsfoot 17mm 3/8" dr for HP diesel fuel lines.
never had a problem getting a flare nut wrench onto any fitting i needed to get to.

most of my open end crowsfeet are 3/8" dr 3/4" to 1 1/4", all SO,
a few 1/2" dr open ends that are just too big to fit where they need to around control valves, and hyd cylinders

also have several line sockets, mostly 3/8" dr metric, for diesel fuel lines

Good to hear. I bought the Sunex flare nut crows AFTER a job where I needed them, and now I haven't had another situation where I needed them since. They looked like great quality so I ordered them.
