CSPS 56" wide Toolbox? Anyone have this one?

So I was shopping at Costco yesterday, and I have seen some threads on here about tool boxes there. I am in the market for one, and I saw this one there. It is a CSPS 56” wide 6 caster rolling toolbox with ball bearing locking drawers and a big butcher block across the entire top of the box.

I did a quick search, and did not see any threads dedicated to this one. Has anyone else bought this one and put it into use? It is a little on the pricey side @$499 (compared to US General $399).

Anyone else have this one, or been able to get a better look at it??

True, drawers are only 16" deep. That is one thing I noticed when I was opening and closing drawers.

Without seeing it in person I would tend to agree that it looks like a good deal. I have a 41" stainless tall chest from Costco which I am very impressed with the build quality.

It would seem that a 56 wide box thats only 18 deep would be easy to tip over. That would put the wheels only about 15 inch track. I guess it would depend on the weight of the box

I rolled it around, and it seemed pretty stable......but that is obviously without 100's of #'s of top weight with tools in drawers. I did like the 6 casters as opposed to 4 and the 1.5" butcher block on top.

I like the looks of the top in the photos. I dodnt imagine it would be any more unstable that a 41 inch box and side box. I would have to switch that caster layout around and put the fixed casters on the end. Although it would give it a 0 turning radius placeing it agaisnt a wll in a cubby hole would be tough. Still at 499 you can't be real picky. Thats a lot of box for that money. Looks pretty good also

I do not beleive that is the same one. This one has 16" deep drawers, not 18.

Does anybody else find CSPS's website more painful than I do? Horrible coding, no contact info ANYWHERE on how to find the boxes, or pricing info. How much shittier can you get than that? I was looking at this one, but it seems impossible to find anyone who sells it or a price...

kinda off topic, it's a nice looking box imo, BUT - who the hell designs the drawer layouts for tool boxes? Do the companies hire designers that have never used a box before? IMO, even SO has b/s drawer layouts in some instances.

Not real high quality, it is one of the Vietnamese boxes, not the better Taiwan or Canadian boxes like they used to sell.

It's not really a tool box, it is a work bench, and you better anchor it to the wall. You put some tools in this and roll it, it will fall over.

Yeah, thanks for chiming in. I am a weekend wrencher so I am probably picking up the HF 13 drawer box this weekend. I have read all the threads, and for what I need, it makes the most sense for me.

I bought that one in April 2010 when Costco first stocked it. I paid 459.00, they've recently raised price to 499.00.

It's a decent box for the money, it has a beautiful hardwood top. I use mine as the "Office" and it works out well. The top alone makes it a better buy than the HF box. IMO

not sure if i want one of these, but i'd like to lay a hand on it and see it for myself. $500 for a decent 56" is a pretty stout deal...if its a decent box... i'm more inclined to add another of the HF 4x" and making a bench to mount across the two of 'em.

I bought a HammerHead stainless 41' top and bottom 19 drawer box a couple years ago for $400 off craigslist and it seems like a real nice box. It was originally sold at Costco stores in the early 2000's for almost $800 and I am pretty sure it was built by CSPS or they somehow affiliated with HammerHead. The HammerHead website had the same box listed for $3200 at the time I bought it.

I have the CSPS 56" wide x 22" deep Toolbox in Stainless Steel. I also bought mine at Costco, and I think I paid just under a grand.

The only thing I wish mine had was a full-width drawer for things like long breaker bars, pry bars, etc. Other than that I am very pleased with it. It was exactly what I wanted for the amount I was willing to pay.

Some confusion on Costco tool boxes.
There is no Costco brand, there are only boxes sold by Costco.

They have ranged from CSPS 56 inch Canadian made stainless boxes, to 41 inch Canadian made stainless, to Torin boxes made in Taiwan, to Torin boxes made in China, to CSPS boxes made in Taiwan, to CSPS boxes made in Vietnam that were so bad they were a joke.

CSPS sells boxes from all over the world and all quality levels.

This 56 inch tool bench is not as bad as the horrible first box they brought in from Vietnam, it's just not as good of steel, rollers, quality, as the Taiwan, Canadian and China boxes.

Now, would it make a good workbench? Which is what it is sold as?
Sure, why not?
Good wooden top, drawers for under the workbench.

It is not sold as, or intended as a roll around tool box.
Don't move it loaded, unless you are very careful and have loaded the bottom heavy, and the top light.

This isn't opinion, look at the physics. The workbench has most of its weight at the top, before you load your ratchets and sockets into the top drawers.

It is 56 x 18. Workbench, not tool box.

That box can not be 3'x4'x5'5''.
Look at the picture.

I get guys calling 24 inches 3 feet all the time. 42 inches is called '4 feet tall'.
Only measurement I believe is the 65 inches long. Which is about right for a short triple.

Or not worth my time to drive over there and look at it, and I'm not doing anything today...

I own an original LX top/bottom from Hammerhead and it's an excellent box. I worked out of it every day for 8 years while working for GM.

Made by the same makers of Snap-On and Mac boxes. That alone should tell you the seller doen't have a clue. I seriously doubt it 36 inches deep.

But for my money, I'd get the HF 41" with the 17" wide 7 drawer end cabinet for $50 more, plus a piece of plywood for a countertop if needed.

Just my 2 cents.

Regguy1 have you had any problems with the unit being "Top Heavy?" Sounds like it's been a good ToolBox from what you are saying.

No problem with tipping, but I'm using it as a desk. If you're going to put a top box on it the wood top is of no value and in fact might be a negative factor. It's not a heavy duty box but I'm happy with it for my purpose.

I saw one this afternoon at Costco. It was up on the rack, so I couldn't look at it too closely. But the drawers I opened all had double set of slides. I probably just didn't open enough drawers. I did open drawers that were side by side, short ones and long ones, and they all had dual slides.

I was pretty tempted. I have been contemplating one of the HF tool chests instead. But I hate dealing with the local HF store, and by the time I get the extra side unit, I would be $560 into the HF setup, without a top of course. And Costco really stands behind their stuff.

The butcherblock top on the Costco box looks pretty nice.

I am looking for something to get my bicycle tools well organized, and I am setting up a temporary workshop until the permanent shop gets built.

I would like to see more feedback from happy or unhappy customers on the Costco stuff.

I need something I can at least roll inside. My temporary workshop is going to the kitchen in the duplex I am buying.

Way, way, way off topic here but somebody mentioned Costco's return policy and I have a question. If I have a failed Larin aluminum 2 ton jack which they no longer carry can it be returned/exchanged/waranteed through them even if I don't have a receipt? How would that go down?
