I'm hearing yah. I wouldn't compromise if its something that would damage my car or myself (cheap load bearing tools, etc.) but those boxes are nice.

I guess if it does the job you need it to do, then it's a good fit.

I can't afford the pricy stuff either, but there are times I have bought it anyway because it was the only thing that would do the job...and keep doing it.

I dont know whether I did good or not. I went into costco today and bought the 41" SS (floor model) for $360.00. It was in good shape (few scratches-no dents) and marked down to $400.00 (last one - on clearance) I got the manager to take another 10% off. Only catch-it didnt have the key:-(

Any chance of some pics of the top (under the lid) and a few of the drawers. I will be in the market for a bigger box this next year and I am told that Costco is building a store nearby.

What is your point here? If you are in the market for a toolbox today, this information isn't really helpful. .
My point is:
If you buy from Garage Toys & expect to get a genuine Hammerhead as advertised then you are going to be sorely PO'd. I would have though this was useful information under the circumstances what with it being false & misleading advertising etc....:wtf:

The Hammerhead versions they sold at Costco 3 or 4 years back are WAY better quality than the CSPS versions.

Not better quality and very poor customer service from the people at Hammerhead.

I purchased the Hammerhead from Costco several years ago. About half of the drawers were rusting, after about 2 years, on the very back where they were welded. For the most part this rust was only visible if the drawer is removed. On some drawers the paint was bubbling up and if you scratched it off there was rust underneath.

Since the Hammerhead supposedly has a lifetime warranty I was not worried. Wrong thinking on my part. Hammerhead was willing to send me 3 new drawers but when I told them it was almost half that were rusting they would not honor their lifetime warrranty.

When I spoke to someone else higher up the food chain, they said that they would send me all the drawers I wanted but I would have to pay for shipping. They are in California and I'm in South Carolina and the shipping was quite expensive. I just told them forget it.

Since Costco guarantes everything they sell I just took it back to them. They gave me no trouble at all. The unit was at least 2 years old when I returned it.

They only sold the CSPS tool chest when I returned the Hammerhead so I just got one of thoses. I noticed the drawers in the back are made different too. They do not have a joint in the bottom of the rear of each drawer. I think that' a better design since there is less chance for them to rust.

I have been 100% satisfied with the CSPS chest and several months ago when I saw Costco was selling a 52" CSPS chest I bought one of those too.

I'm sure glad someone brought up the issue of the quality of Hammerhead tool chest since it has given me an opportunity to related my experience with it.

If you have a Hammerhead tool chest you may want to pull out a few drawers and look at the back of the drawers and see if your's are rusting.

I know this is a bit late but I just found this forum and saw this post so I had to chime in.

To get replacement keys just contact CSPS and give them the # on the lock.

I just bought my 41" box from Costco last week (late christmas present to myself) This thing looks to be of good quality, liners could be a bit better sized but only have 1/4" inch or so gaps at the edges, so nothing too bad.
Warning, if you are trying to assemble this by yourself, this is HEAVY. I did and about killed myself doing it.
Now just to load it.

By the way, there is a seller on Ebay that is selling the 56" model for 1400 bucks, how much did you get yours for edboyles?

I love this site!!

I have been told here in the NW that they are discontinuing carrying this 56" toolbox. They may get them in again some time but they told me they are not slated for the near future. I got the last one in Oregon and had to drive 50 miles to get it one way. If you are thinking about it I wouldn't wait too long...might want to call your local Costco and check.

I've had my eye on the one from sams club, but don't really care for the diamond tread drawer fronts on them this year. anyone heard if they will bring back the standard s.s. design?

So I just went to Costco and they had some made in China tool chest (?IPKO?) which I had never heard of. The floor model didn't look too hot. Anyone know where I can pick up a 41" CSPS chest these days? I knew I should have bought one when I first saw it many months ago:(

I would buy the standard stainless design in a hartbeat. I really DO NOT like the diamond plate look.

Damn, i am kicking myself for not buying the 56" CSPS box at Costco while they had it... now they've only got a 41" branded as a "Trinity", IIRC... drawer slides felt cheap as hell, no ball bearings. Price is the same as the 41" CSPS, tho :( Guess i'll have to look into shipping on the International boxes from toolwarehouse.

I just purchased a damaged 41" CSPS from Sam's for $400. The straigtening process reveals that the stainless is pretty thin and warps easy when worked on. the Stainless Steel skins are pop-riveted on. The Wheels bolt to two heavier galvanized plates attached to the top side of the bottom. Bottom does not look that heavy. I have seen a lot of rollaways that had thicker plates added to the bottoms, so I can live with that.. Would I buy again after seeing the way it is constructed? Yes for $400 I would, but for $678 I probably would not.

If you have some specific reason why you believe the CSPS product is a "POS", please share that with us. Please keep in mind that if you decide to compare it to the similar, present day Hammerhead offering, that they cost, as you sugest, FIVE times as much.

Cuz it's made in China, that's why :bounce:

Check ebay on the international boxes, most of the time you can get free drop shipping. I’ve also seen a lot of them ship for around $75. My dad had interest in these, just couldn’t pull the trigger without seeing them. If you happen to look, check out their 50+" model for pictures on how they are made...

Depending on usage, I have found a good way to tell if it's a good box is how the slides are attached to the drawer itself. Cheaper boxes are just riveted, putting a lot of shear force on them cheap little rivets, where "good" boxes tend to have slots in the drawer the slides "hang" onto with fingers... Check out your local HD and look at the Husky Pro boxes next to the non Pro boxes, you will know what I mean.

The Costcos in the San Deigo CA area have them. Just give them a call. I had to drive down from Nor CA just to get one.

I see costco seems to be having this again available, but the price is $699 for the 41". Can anyone confirm what the price used to be? I thought it used to be $649.

Correct, last I checked they were in the system but not yet shipped to stores. They have to wait till all the other brands are sold before shipping. Let us know when they are in-store...if they already are, looks like I have a trip to make this weekend.

I just purchased the 41 in. from our local Matco dealer last week for $650 in excellent shape. I tell you Ive had craftsman and Snap-On boxes and I like this much better than both of my previous boxes. My only question and or concern is With other brands you can purchase side cabinets for extra storage space that match their boxes. Well Im already thinking im going to need more space and Im wondering if CSPS makes matching bolt on side cabinets for their stainless steel boxes? Or do u have to buy a bigger box when you fill one?
thanks

Great buy!!

Ditto for me at the Fremont, CA Costco. They just got them back in stock, as I've been watching every week or so since early January.

As of Friday, 3/16 they had one left after I got mine.

Model # CPTCFWS0A4117
41" S.S.
17-drawer

Picked mine up this weekend at the Salem Oregon store. Love it!!!! My techs have Craftsman, Snap-On, Mac and we compared the boxes. Not much difference....except the price! OK, maybe the Snap-On box doubles mine in size but $6000.00 is more than I want to spend. To each his own.

Love my 41" CSPS from Costco. Got mine a little over a year ago for $650.
The stainless is great, even if it does show smudges easily. I just use the same cleaner/microfiber towel that I use for the kitchen stainless.

My friends/neighbors always comment on it when they see it in the garage :)

I was finally able to get my tool chest, it's $700 from costco now...prices seem to creep up a bit every year, but worth it:
This is a picture of the model I got (I have yet to put it together):
