@driftpin this latest place is our first purchase, here's to the next 30 years of debt! Thanks for the congrats! The BMW history is appreciated, it's also cool to hear your stories on personal connections and memories to BMW and cannondale, I hope I triggered some good thoughts! Klein attitude is a legend of a bike... do you have the bar/stem too?

We have been motoring on painting and getting things sorted at the house.

The garage wiring was a nightmare. Future father in law helped me rewire it over the last few weekends. We plan to upgrade the service to 60amp and give the garage its own panel.

Previous owner had left a 16' unstable bench in the basement made of 2x6. Last weekend I turned the 16ft benchtop into a much more sturdy 6ft bench. It has a lot of character and will be great for bike workshop duties.

We have been busy painting everything, the place is getting mostly Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace and white dove. We will mix in some greys etc.

I'll post some up some updated photos of the garage and basement workshop early next week.

I love the character of the basement walls... that said, my not-quite-as-old basement and drain system led to "significant character" last weekend while I was out of the country for work. Thankfully my wife, although prone to exaggeration, reacted well enough and we have good neighbors for overseeing the recovery and plumbing team.

Bench refit looks perfect for reduced clutter 11spd maintenance.

same thing happened to me. honestly I re-read and scrolled around trying to remember when I wrote this. 4" of water the in basement while I was in Taiwan... need to get a battery backup for the sump pump, and an aux pump.

I'm sure you know about SCR in PLainville. I found two bottlecaps that your welcome to have, I am in Westfield Ma. Gutting the house and starting over looks fantastic.

M-technik - I guess it’s time to confess... about three months ago I started parting out the 2002. For my skill level, and time available, I just wasn’t making progress. Seeing it sit was taking up physical and mental space. The shell is gone and many parts are sold. 3 M10 motors and a bunch of other parts that still need to go out the door!

In its place I got a 1981 rabbit pickup. Bought it as a worker as we took on some home reno stuff. So far it’s been great fun. My wife won’t let me sell it to get something bigger.

It’s a great worker, but with the R32 also around, it makes me wonder how fun the caddy would be with VR6 noise.

VR6 out that far on the nose is going to stress the support beam unless you beef it up.

I can be done but my suggestion is a modern Tdi swap. Tons of Torque and great hp with tuned turbo system, plus lets mention great mileage.

Sorry to see the 02 go, here's a like they might be interested in what remains.

http://sports-car-restoration.com/ easiest to call them.

Also do you know about the Mechanical Advantage in Winsted ct on 44? They have tons of older VW's plus there is Pelham Auto in Belchertown Ma, used to be the place for old MK1 series VW and has evolved over the years. Used to own Scirocco II with tons of toys and a 3.1L VR6 Passat with gagomatic for former spouse.

I’ve been needing to work on storage in the garage, a place to get tools, hardware all of that stuff away - without too many tables/shelves to collect ****. I bought some ikea cabinets and mounted them to the wall. I’m not psyched with them, but they are doing the job. Would love to build some cabinets for that wall eventually. Started with clearing the base of the wall to accept the new bench/box.

Once that was all set and the wall was cleared I picked up two HF 44in boxes. The measures depth, when hugged up against the wall would sit at the same depth as the garage door and not take up precious space for parking the car.

I removed the casters, and made a welded base so that I could get the box right up against the wall. The foundation prevents the box from being rolled right up against the wall.

Welded some bolts into the legs to I could level the base on the uneven floor.

Made a quick top out of some birch plywood and now I have a shallow bench, a place to sit and it hasn’t cut into car parking area!

Looks like a nice work bench, how does it align with car doors on that side? Maybe shifting left or right you could create a gap for at least one of the car doors on that side to open into a little more easily.

It hasn’t been bad so far. The garage is 2 car and 24’ wide. The biggest door is the 2 door r32 and I haven’t had a problem getting in or out so far. I likely will keep the caddy on this side because it gets worked on more often. Some more work to do on the bench, but I’m happy with the result so far!
