Cub Cadet Enduro 42 - Any good?

Hey everyone,

I'm buying a new (to me) house. The previous owner is offer to sell me his 2015 Cub Cadet Enduro mower for about $400. Its only been used to mow the property which has about 0.3 - 0.4 acres of grass and works fine. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, but I've never needed/owned a riding mower before.

Unfortunately, thats the only info I have and I am unlikely to get much more.

So, what do the experts of Garage Journal have to say?

Price is right depending on Good+ condition. I'd expect with that small a property low hours and great overall condition.

What engine does it have, Briggs? I have a cub cadet 42" I bought second hand with twin cyl. Briggs engine on it, runs great. Just put new belts on it and cut for a while, taking lunch break.

It is a Kohler 18hp engine, per the owner.

The enduro series includes 17 models from very basic to pretty high end for a lawn machine. One good thing is they all have hydrostatic transmissions. One bad thing is that the steering linkage is very weak and not repairable. When it fails you replace the entire linkage. Expect that about every two to three years on the average lawn. The price is decent even if it is the low end of the line provided it is in good condition. If the lawn has hills or requires a lot of steering around trees and such, you may want a different machine.

If its a kohler courage engine...they had a lot of problems. I wouldn't touch it. I just googled and found the 18hp courage engine was one of the engines in that mower. Google kohler courage engine problems if you need details.

Thanks for all of the comments. I am going to give it a shot. Way cheaper than buying a new one, so who knows.
