Cubitron belts, discs...is there an equivalent?

I need to find a supply source for 8" self adhesive discs and 1 x 42 belts to be used to dress mild steel and maybe AL. I need to go to school on this.

There is only one thread on this site with regard to Cubitron®. I don't know what else is better than plain ol' al oxide which ain't too good except for wood.

I grind steel and aluminum every day and the longest lasting belts Ive found are the Red ceramic ones.

Hint for aluminum...it clogs belts and will cause them to act like they are spent. Use a bar of soap and run it into the belt before you grind aluminum and they will last longer. Smae thing works for bandsaw blades....

We switched to Cubitron II grinding discs over a year ago and can't be happier with how they grind mild steel. I would recommend them highly for your application. RS Hughes is our source, but I didn't see that they carry 8" dia. discs. It also looks like they require high volume purchasing. I've never used regular Cubitron stuff, so I can't say how they compare to Cubitron II. MSC also carries them and probably sells in smaller quantities.

Norton Blaze belts are what I use. My welding supplier gave me some Blaze flap discs to try and they were the best I have used.

Well, thank you, but I guess I should say I'm not a shop. I wanted 5 discs and as many belts. RSHughes min order on those discs is $333.

I should also say that the self adhesive disc I would like is for a solid, smooth steel wheel. I use this to square up edges, smooth out cutting marks and perfect radii. Maybe a flapper is not what I need.

Yeah, some of the stuff at RS Hughes is ridiculous huh? For your 8" wheel, you might want to try the zirconia alumina discs from McMaster. We use it on our 20" disc sander and it works pretty well.
P/N 47125a291. We get the 60 grit disc.
