Cummins Tools

Does anyone have any experience with these tools? They have a traveling sale coming to my area on Monday. Kind of look like Harbor Freight quality. Have some things I could use, shop stuff.

Well i feel like a post *****, I hit 1800 lol. ANYWAY...

your right, they are junky HF quality tools. Northern sells them. My friend his dad do alot of trail ridding on quads, and they built a small kit out of them to throw in a small bag to take with them on the trail, as they didnt want to lose or reck good stuff. Its junky stuff, but they will do the job if you need to. Most of them are made in china

I place them a step below HOMIER, which is lower than HF, which is lower than northern.

Think of it like this: The stuff Northern doesnt buy due to finish issues is sold to HF, the Stuff that HF ships back due to quality issues is sold to Homier, the Stuff Homier wont buy is the **** Cummings puts in their truck.

I dont understand WHY they sell this ****, I mean does anybody actually buy an amount of these junky tools to be worth while??? Look how munch more they could make by selling US made tools... more from the allen line they sell instead of the ****ty northern industrial line... everybody knows that crappy tools are not industrial Look how much US hand tools dominate the tool market, and being that Northern Has great prices on almost everything else, theyd have great prices on thier US tools too..... Id buy from them, always been happy with thier service on stuff in the past.

I bought my auto darkening welding helmet from them for 30 bucks.....wanted to try the auto ones. Still using it 3 years later.

We have the trucks come here and set up about twice a year. Have to admit most of the items are on the very low end. If you look very closely, dig through a number of piles, and are not shopping for anything special you can usually find one or two items that may be worth getting.

The challenge is to find them. They will have them in stock since most of the crowd, at least here, has never had their hands on a pro level tool and going for the junk even at higher prices. Those two old saying ring true there is a sucker born every moment and a fool and his money are soon parted.

Cummins had a show in the same building as a gun show I was at last year. me and my buddy went over and walked through and saw nothing but junk. A set of combination wrenches 1/4 to 1.5 inch for $9 etc. We just shook our heads but people were filling carts with that stuff.


On the other hand, a lot of those people looked like they weren't rolling in money but I would think they could at least afford Craftsman.

A Cummins truck sale was in my area last week. I stopped just to see what junk they had to offer. Anyway a cargo bar caught my attention. A bar that crosses a pickup bed to wedge things in place. For $10 I thought it's worth it to me and how bad can it be, a twist and the bar unlocks another twist locks it in place. Well I found out how bad it can be. Guy hands me one out of the truck, I walk to my truck, WTF I can't twist it to open. Take it back to the guy he says "sorry, I'll get you another." 2nd one comes out with the same problem. I said to him forget it, I'm going in to get my money back. Then he asks if I want the 2 pieces of junk he threw on the ground for my $10. 2 pieces of junk for the price of one, gee how could I go wrong. I got my $10 back with no problem and learned the lesson I usually learn from cheap tools--false economy

In the light that a tool's purpose is to perform a function not just be an almost tool shaped object and an importers it to make as money as possible. It is really buyer beware. I have found many tool shaped or almost tool shaped objects at Cummin's sales. So with one exception a pry bar that I bought to use on bricks, (did not want to damage my good ones) most of the tools I have left Cummins sales with are not labeled Cummins. You can find some good items labeled Cummins, but they are the same price you can get them at any other store. I truly wonder if some of the companies making the almost tool shaped objects understand what they are making and it is supposed to have a function.

What I usually look for is some close outs they have received. Last summer I picked up a light torque wrench that they had gotten as Tru-Value moved from usable Tiawanese tools to some tool shaped objects made in China. Paid 8.85 for a 3/8 drive inch pound wrench that calibrated out adaquate for what I was doing and have not needed to use since. It beat the $19.95 Cummins one that had a scale I could not read and $64.95 at the local Tru-Value.

In the sales I have been to most of the people who go there are of two categories. One who tools at Walmart much the less Sears are too expensive so they are using this alternative or like me the curious who are looking for the the one gem you may find that is a good tool at each sale. That is about my average and it usually takes me up to an hour to determine what it is.

My reccomendation is not to go with a list, it is disappointing, but like all tool sales with a good eye and the knowledge of what you use you can come out all right.

There was a Cummins tool sale at a VFW hall 4 minutes from my house last year. I pass by the hall everyday as I commute to work. I noticed the tool sale as I was coming home and drove right past thinking that it must be all ****. I got curious though and turned around when I reached my street and went back. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but I wanted to see what they had. Most of the stuff there was **** but they had some "decent or acceptable" stuff. I went home with a 20 gallon parts washer that I paid $97 for. The hardware to bolt it together was cheesy but I have plenty of other hardware here at home that I substituted. I have given it plenty of use with all the car parts I've cleaned up in it and I have yet to have any problems with it. Maybe I'm lucky and found one of those gems even though there isn't much to go wrong on a parts washer.

They did have reconditioned DeWalt and Ridgid tools there also that weren't too badly priced. I wasn't able to really get a good look at them due to the amount of people in those isles. Plus I really had to get home and didn't need any more "distractions".

You usually will not go wrong with the heapo cheapo parts washers sold by any of these flea market type operators.
