Cup-style seal installer set needed...

Good morning all,

Does anyone know of a cup-style seal installer set (i.e. the installers / drivers are cup-shaped) on the market? All the ones I can find (and already own) are solid cylinders of steel or aluminum. I need this for installing bearing and shaft seals where there is a rubber lip standing proud of the seal (a shaft wiper / grease retaining seal). The rubber lip is sometimes reinforced with a metal ring that is damaged by using a flat-faced seal driver.

I could make my own set by cutting off various diameters of pipe and welding a plate on the back for a driver handle, but that would be a royal PITA, and would take a lot of time that I don't have.

Thank you very much!

Now that's an idea that didn't occur to me. Buy some really large cheap Chinese sockets and use them as seal drivers.

Thank you!

I prefer to use PVC couplings if you're going to be hitting it. If you have a thread to use you can go the safe route and get some fender washers and a bolt the right size and make a setup so that you can draw the pipe/socket etc.. on top of the seal. Works well for many cam/crank seals especially if you don't have the room to swing a hammer.

Bearing and bushing installation sets can also double as good seal installation tools if the cup/driver is the right size. Even the HF sets work great.

I have used anything from large sockets 3in+, to pipe ******* with caps, to PVC. I prefer the sockets the best. But the other options will work as well.

If you do use sockets i'd suggest impacts. Chrome will flake as the metal mushrooms. I tend to use sockets in press situations as opposed to beating on them though.
