Curbs in garages

I was wondering why there are garages that have a curb in them?

I myself am not a fan of it. For instance hitting the front bumper of a compact car. Can't fit as big of a car in the garage. You can't put a riding mower in that area with the curb. I like having one flat floor gives more room in garage. It's easier to move stuff around.

This - for fire prevention apparently. They don't want gas or fumes moving towards the house.

There's steps for the door to get into the house from the garage. Which i understand completely.

I don't have a curb in my garage. Just steps to get into the door for the house.

If you have a step or steps then you wouldn’t need a curb since the step acts as the barrier or curb

My Garage is attached to the house, with an entry door from the family room, and steps down into the Garage. The Water Heater and FAU is in a closet in the middle of the house. Its nice in that the Garage is longer because of the entry door. I know a friend that his Garage has an entry door right off the entry, and it has a step down to the curb. The Curb is about 4ft wide and extends the full width of the Garage. At the far end of the curb, is the Water Heater up on a Box. Anything you park in there hangs over the curb and you have to walk around the car, I don't see its purpose.
