I have a 5000 sq. ft. brand new concrete floor that I applied a heavy coat of a cure and seal sealer. The coating flaked off and failed on about 30% of the floor. I decided to remove the remaining coating and start over. I assumed that because a lot of the sealer flaked off that removing the rest would be easy.
I have spent 2 different days and rented 3 different electric powered dual disc edco machines and a Husqvarna single head machine.
I have used 50 grit Red and 70 grit Grey Dyma Dots for the EDCO and I think a 50 grit diamond insert on the Husqvarna. With poor results.
After spending a lot of time and researching etc... I have come to the conclusion that the grinding discs are not able to removed the sealer. They get gummed up and seem to slide across the surface.
I think shotblasting is probably my best bet but I'm not interested in paying a local company big bucks to do this for me and I can't find one to rent anywhere local. Although I'm going to call around and see what they charge.
So if I try to do it again myself it appears I have 2 options.
I can use a chemical solvent not sure what yet but maybe a Xylene? to dissolve coating and then scrape it off?
Or after more research I see that edco offers a dyma-sert and a pcd system that is designed for coating removals. I did find a local rental place that I think offers the type I need.
Solvents seems messy and I'm about tired of paying money for grinders that dont work!
I did search on here and it appears some people have used solvents but I'm not sure what kind etc??? and really how well they work?
So what do you guys think? Try a Solvent or go back with an edco.
I'm leaning more towards the edco with the correct coating discs as I would still have to grind the concrete after using a solvent anyway.
I'm trying to get a CSP1-3? profile for an epoxy floor coating.

P.S. electric grinding machines on a standard 20 amp 110v circuit with a heavy duty extension cord are terrible. I will be going with a gas machine from now on. The voltage drop ? machine bogs down constantly.
