I have been limping along for a while now with a Black and Decker set pushing 15 years old.

I have added new 18V batteries over the years.

I have converted with some 20V adapters.

I have added some over the years. A couple of smaller drills, a grinder, etc.

I have killed a hammer drill. The replacement is pretty beat.
A couple of smaller drills are fine.
My 4.5 inch circular saw I would love to replace with a bigger diameter.
My blower is fine.
My reciprocating saw has been a champ but showing its age.
My jig saw is corded.
My corded grinder is ****.
My compressor driven half inch driver is ****.

I am at a point where most of my batteries are weak again.

The sets change components and specs often and it is pretty misleading trying to compare.

I think it is time to consolidate and go with a dewalt set or combination of sets giving me:
Impact driver
Hammer drill
Lighter drill
Jig saw
6.5 inch circular saw
Reciprocating saw
Grinder
Blower

What would be the solid sets to go with, best bang for the buck?

I like my dewalt 20v brushed and brushless line up, the only thing I wish they were better at would be with the impacts. Granted, my 3/8 and both 1/2 impacts are fine, its just knowing the milwaukees are so much better kind of bothers me but not enough to switch.

I have a house full of Dewalt stuff. Like it a lot. The one negative to the Dewalt kits is the circular saw has a stamped steel shoe instead of the magnesium shoe. Not saying a stamped steel shoe is bad. I am saying I don't like the Dewalt stamped steel shoe that happens to be on the kit 6-1/2 inch saws. YMMV. I believe kit reciprocating saws are fine. Kit drills can be fine. Dewalt really does plus up the price depending on the batteries included. The Atomic stuff is their 20v answer to their own 12v lineup. Basically their 12v stuff with a 20v battery. I just bought the 708 compact drill. Nice enough. Why a 6-1/2 circular saw when these new 7-1/4 saws can be had for a small premium?

You could do a lot worse than starting with this kit right here DCK483D2. All brushless. Good kit. Good stuff. A hammer drill. A 3 speed impact and a 7-1/4 saw.

I am glad I am not starting over. But at some level buying a bunch of new stuff is fun.

Spend wisely.

Look for the xr brushless tools. Most kits try to slip in the lower quality models. Check slickdeals to see what's on sale now.

This and they also slip in the **** 1.5ah or the big old 4ah batteries. The better kits will have the 2ah or 5ah, or the new version 4ah compact battery.
