Current Craftsman Professional Combo Wrenches

Hey all,

I'm really wanting some long pattern combo wrenches but money is really tight right now. The way I figure, the Craftsman Pro's are probably equal to Tekton or Gearwrench??? Or am I wrong?

Anyhow, I can get a decent set for like $50.00. I have some old Craftsman VV series raised panel wrenches, and I have Duralast & Proto ratcheting for further backup.

So for anyone who has the current Chinese CM Pro wrenches... Is it a waste of money, or a cheap way to get some long pattern wrenches?

BTW, I mostly work on motorcycles but work on my cars when they're broken. I'm a weekend warrior at best; FAR from a pro.

I've got a set of the Chinese craftsman long patterns in my service truck. They've held up well to abuse. I'm not saying that better wrenches aren't out there, but these aren't bad. My 2 cents.

I have them, I have managed to get all but two sizes and I will complete the set next week. They are seem fine to me for the work I do, however, I only have raised panel Craftsman and Gearwrench wrenches for comparison.

I highly recommend the Tekton, they are go-to sets at home and have held up very well. I have not used the warranty but I expect it will be easier then trying to find a Sears.

Full disclosure: I don't own any craftsman pro wrenches, and probably never will. Just to many other options, and Sears is an hour away.

I would love to buy Tekton, but best I can tell they no longer offer long pattern wrenches. I already have three sets of standard length wrenches.

For English wrenches, I have the original Craftsman Pro that were made by SK (the SK long pattern wrenches), and I absolutely love them. Wish I could afford a set of SK long patterns to make it a matching set... I probably will some day, but right now I'm a bit poor.

$148.00??? For $20.00 more I can have a set of SK's to match my standard set.

Unfortunately I need cheap at the moment. The CM Pro's are under $50.00

Toptul guys crack me up. :lol_hitti:lol_hitti

I would argue that Tekton is a step above Craftsman (Funny story, Tektōn is Greek for "Craftsman") and Gearwrench is a step above both, I use them for metric (I'm assuming that's what you need due to your context and your link being to metric.) Tekton doesn't make metric long pattern only standard and you'll be paying $80 for a Gearwrench set. So, UNFORTUNATELY I suppose Cman would be the best here. I have a friend who had some Sunex that I used but that was a while ago and I don't see them for sale anywhere.

I put an EBay bid on the CM Pro's, if I don't win it tomorrow I'm buying that Toptul set. Thanks for the link.

I seen a newer set of polished China Craftsman wrenches that resembles the old U.S.A. S-K Tool made Craftsman Professional, but they are not labeled as Professional. Don't get the 2 confused.

That's strange, SK has a very distinctive shape; never seen anyone copy it.

I bought the Craftsman 6pt wrench full set about 7 years ago at $100 and I think they were well worth that price. They're a steal now at $50 IMO.

Very solid wrenches, not the same build quality as the $20 9 piece sets you get off the shelves. I've used mine pretty hard for home use (rebuilt a few engines, etc.), and they've held up great.

6pt >>> 12pt if you're using them for automotive purposes. That craftsman set is the only good complete 6 point wrench set I've found that isn't a really expensive brand like Snap-on.

I found the Toptuls to be too long. They are advertised as extra long and are. I got rid of them for Gearwrench combos and am pleased.

Little nitpick but there is no such thing as "current" or "Chinese" craftsman professionals. They're just full polish. The old USA Professionals are actually stamped as such and are slightly thinner, a hair longer, and lack the lobster claw effect.

Im sure they'll work fine though.
