Hello all. I'm a middle-aged cardiologist in eastern PA who grew up in his dad's electrical motor repair shop (northern NJ). During high school and college, I worked summers in the shop, repairing electrical motors, some of which (elevator motors in particular), needed to be stripped and rebuilt on site. Rebuilt an elevator motor in the former (RIP) World Trade Center.

My dad passed away and I inherited all of his tools. It has brought me great joy in organizing and completing the gaps in his set. I'm passionate about quality and in supporting the good workers of the USA. I found this site through the HJE website and have enjoyed the comradery here. Will try to contribute what little expertise I possess.

I'm looking to retire in about 10 years. My goal is to have a garage worthy of display in this forum, complete with lift etc. I plan on buying a late 50's corvette and to spend my old age restoring it and hanging out at antique car shows (it will keep me out of my wife's hair).

Anyway, thanks for running a great site. Glad to be a part of it.

Welcome to the forum from the shore of San Diego Bay. I too am retired; in a previous life I was a Navy Electronics Tech, then I became a Marine Electrician and when shipbuilding dried up I switched to Industrial Maintenance.

My dad rebuilt motors for the navy many years ago. They were the toughest customer to keep happy. He had one employee whose only job was to paint the floors and machinery so that the shop looked clean and up to spec. On occasion, the Navy would pay for a motor to be rebuilt and then (unannounced) put it on a saw and cut it in half. If the varnish didn't get into the deepest nooks and crannies, you failed.
